4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA great educational setting and environment is comprehensively prepared every year for the current students and new incoming students to ensure a great learning foundation. The administration, educators, and the staff go above and beyond to provide a welcoming school at Thomas Edison High School. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI briefly worked here and am so glad I never will interact with this school again. We were told by administration to NEVER fail a student even if they submit zero assignments for the year. Further, they(both admin and other teachers) made racist remarks about my last name(I am of middle eastern descent) and finally only apologized for it after I broke down crying in the principal's office. One fellow teacher even swapped all the desks in my room out with theirs in the summer when I was not there and left me with worse, smaller desks. When I asked about this, no one did anything to help and I was left to figure it out on my own.My class periods were extremely unorganized in that I had several classes with 30-35 students and one of my classes only had ONE student. No matter how much I complained about it nothing was changed and in those larger courses, I even had 6th graders in my 8th grade course. I obviously had to adjust and just not grade them similarly because they never even took 7th or 6th grade courses in that subject. Instead of letting me design a curriculum, they bought a pre-planned online lesson guide for every day of the year which is cool! Except for the first few weeks they weren't even able to give out computers to all the students so they could not access it.The principal cares much more about optics and keeping their job rather than the actual growth of these students. Many of them know and abuse it to their advantage which is not their fault, its ours. There definitely are many teachers at the school that care but have also realized there is a lot they cannot do or change if the administration is unwilling. Once again, I look forward to never interacting with this school again and if you have the option, send your student somewhere else. It will definitely be a benefit.Side complaint: Why did I have to pay the school money to be allowed to wear Jeans to work? That just sounds ridiculous.Teacher Review3mo ago14 Reviews - Lamar Elementary School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you are looking for a school with a communal feel where parents are familiar not only with their child's teacher but with all administration and teachers in other grades, this is the school for your child. Even the custodial and cafeteria staff know all the children by name and are greeted by them on a daily basis. Teachers know their craft, know their students and families. This is my 4th year teaching at this school and I have never taught at a school that has felt like everyone is family and everyone's opinion matters. This school is very strong on diversity and social/emotional learning. Children learn that differences are a norm and how to advocate for other children who are having a difficult day. There are times, where I am walking down the hall and I get tackled from behind with a big hug from a student. Teachers absolutely love their little scholars and they feel important and understand that teachers want them to succeed. Teachers are extremely knowledgeable in their craft. Special Education department is flexible and knowledgeable. Special Education teachers advocate for their student's need to provide the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.Teacher Review3y ago8 Reviews - Check out schools near N Pine St.

"Awesome, close to downtown. Food haven. Multiple parks nearby. Multiple museums nearby. Japaneese and Botanical garden also in same area. Downtown is just a couple minutes away. The Pearl Brewery and its restaurants are a short drive away or a nice bike ride down the street. Also very close to highway 37/281. That gives quick access to anywhere in san antonio"

"Love this area. A few miles from the Pearl and Downtown and snug in between Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills . You have a small town feel in a big city. There’s a good amount of local restaurants and parks/ trails. "

"It’s a great central location so you can get pretty much anywhere you want to go in the city within 30 minutes or less during heavy traffic, but most times you can get where you want to go in about 15 minutes, whether it’s the grocery store or downtown or the community college. "

"I love this neighborhood, its quiet, although they are gentrifying the whole area so there is always construction at every turn in some parts of the area."
