9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe’ve had our children at Pioneer School of the Arts for two years now, and our experience has been nothing short of amazing. The teachers truly go above and beyond — they care deeply about every student, communicate often, and consistently welcome parent involvement in so many ways. Whether it’s volunteering in class, helping prepare materials, or participating in events, they make families feel part of a real community. Both my girls are part of the Gifted and Talented programs that are now offered in-house starting in 2026. The accelerated placement process wasn’t the easiest (it never is anywhere), but the staff listened, improved the process, and kept us informed every step of the way. Bureaucracy is rarely fun, but Pioneer handled it with transparency and care. The teachers are wonderfully communicative and visible, regularly sharing photos and updates that help parents stay connected to daily classroom life. The principal, Mr. Jakious, is approachable, engaged, and supportive — he sets a wonderful tone for the school community. The admin team, including Mrs. Jill Barton and Liz Ramsey, is exceptional — always kind, patient, and ready to help with anything from a forgotten coat or lunch box to scheduling and general inquiries. Their friendliness and efficiency make such a difference in daily school life.Starting fourth grade, students can choose a music elective — Orchestra, Band, CPAL, or Choir — while k-3rd graders experience both music and CPAL, which includes learning keyboard skills. These creative programs are a highlight and beautifully align with the school’s arts-based mission. The school also offers enriching programs like Pumathon during recess and countless community-based events that bring everyone together. Like in every school, parents have to advocate for their kids — that’s our job — but here, you truly feel supported in doing so.We made the transition from a Montessori-style private school after five years, initially apprehensive about public schools in Idaho after hearing some horror stories. But our worries disappeared almost immediately. Pioneer stands out for its creativity, arts integration, engaged teachers, wonderful staff and a fantastic PTA that brings it all together. We’re so grateful to be part of this community and can’t imagine being anywhere else.Parent Review1mo ago14 Reviews - Discovery Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNot very happy with some of the teachers in this school. They say they don’t support bullying amongst students, but that’s far from the truth. The adults seem to be some of the biggest bully’s in this school. Maybe some of the staff should take a day to read all of the anti bullying posters hung proudly on their walls so they can refresh on basic empathy and respect for other people.Other Review6y ago7 Reviews - Heritage Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers at this school are horrendous and the school only cares about students passing and not the students actual learning. I have struggled severely in multiple classes, due to teachers not teaching well and not putting out information on teams when they were supposed to. It’s currently the last week in the semester to submit work and one of my teachers still has not graded a test from 2 weeks ago. We currently only have 1 day left to retake that test but that teacher has still yet to put the grade in. The faculty does not care about mental health either. The history/government department is outrageous and I’ve never had a positive experience with any of those teachers, they also don’t give any slack to students with severe health problems. Most of the teachers are brand new as well, causing them to not have any good experience with teaching. For college applications, the advisors started talking to the seniors about this mid first semester of senior year; when most schools start the discussion of this topic junior year. I would not recommend this school to upcoming students.Student Review1y ago9 Reviews - Check out schools near N Eagle Rd.

"There is a neighborhood park that offers off leash play hours. Dogs are well behaved and socialized that visit. This park also offers wonderful views, tennis, play equipment and rest rooms. It’s a great place for families with pets."

"My kids were grown when we moved here so I’m not intimately familiar with considerations for children… there are a few streets where traffic is heavy and fast, as well as a few open canals that could be dangerous. I would be very cognizant of these hazards if I had small children and I was looking for a home—find the smaller/quieter streets that are near the open spaces. "
