Description
For sale by owner – 40 acres (43 according to OnXhunt)
5555 Monroe Road Lakeview, MI 48850
(no actual address because no house. But GPS will take you here)
Amazing hunting property! 3 Amish made blinds already there with metal roofs. 2 are elevated. All 3 have office chairs in them for rotating around to the right window. Add a Mr Heater and it’s 55 degrees in each one. Definitely enough room for 2 more blinds or more. Can easily accommodate 5 hunters.
T-Mobile is very strong, Verizon is decent, AT&T is decent.
This property has it all! NE field is tall grass with a dozen or so pines for cover and a VERY active bedding area.
The west field is a corn field for feeding and holding the deer on the property.
The local farmer, Mike Satterlee, has been farming it for free for decades. I recommend you don’t change the agreement. He’s a great guy.
The SW corner has a bit of swamp the big bucks love.
The middle and SE are “old growth” woods. Meaning, old gigantic trees that cast enough shade to stop small brush & undergrowth from making the woods unusable. We drive golf carts & side-by-sides through it without cutting trails. You can get 150yd shots on deer. Many of the old huge trees are maples, so making syrup is an option. Or you can get money from a logging company to “selectively harvest” the big trees. But then you’ll get undergrowth and ruin the hunting for 50 years.
I, Brian Blaser, have owned the property for 6 years. In that time I’ve taken 10 bucks and several does. My buddy’s taken 2 – 9 points. My dad has taken several deer. It’s pretty typical to see 20-25 does in the corn field in late November/early December. We’ve always called the property a “meat factory”. You don’t hope for deer. You decide how many to take. We're selective about which ones we take.
I don’t want to sell the property, but I’m losing my campsite basically. I used to park my camper across the road at my aunt & uncle’s house. They sold it. Land parcel and house parcel. So I need to buy a house and acreage somewhere else. My loss is your gain. This is PRIME hunting land!
The NW entrance to the cornfield is wide enough for campers. I was going to drive in a $300 point well with a jackhammer for water. Which would definitely work at 25 feet deep because of the wet swamps nearby. But I would have to rely on solar and generator for electricity. Doable but not my preference. For $3000 the excavating company 3 miles to the east would scrape off the topsoil down to clay, and dump gravel for a campsite big enough for 2 campers. Maybe that works for you and a group of hunters. But not for my family.
Blinds:
NE “Hilltop” – 6’x6’ elevated, has a solar motion light on stairs, in the tall grass field.
Excellent for crossbow or rifle, shots from 15 to 125 yards.
Deep woods “Pepto Palace” – 6’x6’ ground, mostly for rifle, but not bad
for crossbow. 35 to 150 yard shots.
SW cornfield blind – 5’x5’ elevated, has a solar motion light on stairs, great for
crossbow or rifle, heavy deer traffic, 15 to 200 yard shots.
Local attractions:
Lots of good restaurants/pizza in the small towns. Especially the golf course in Canadian Lakes.
The Amish WNW of property off 5 Mile Road process deer for $75 each (20 minute drive). Before that, they have an awesome bakery and apple orchard. Good cheap source for rough cut pine lumber also. And that’s where we bought the deer blinds, around $600 each.
Near Mount Pleasant and Big Rapids for Black Friday shopping. All the big retailers are there. 30 minute drive at most.
