We switched our child out of private school, and tried two years at this school (because it is in our neighborhood, and has decent reviews). FYI, in reality this school is an absolute joke - the teachers are awful, and when they do communicate with you (which isn't often) they're condescending and rude, and will will talk down to you. We have found the teachers to be uncaring and lazy, using student laptops to teach the lessons, and to assess student growth and need. The teachers and administration at Alameda Elementary do nothing about disruptive students or bullying and fighting, and the school will not contact you if your child is the victim of such activity - they leave it up to your child to inform you, then when you call to inquire, they will not call you back, and when you go to the school to inquire, they will brush you off. The curriculum is awful, administration is awful, and student meals are deplorable - not to mention the school itself is falling apart, and looks more like prison compound than an elementary school. This is supposed to be a great school in a nice affluent neighborhood (one of the reasons we purchased a home here)... but compared to a private school, Alameda Elementary is awful in every aspect - we certainly won't be looking back anytime soon. The Oregon public education system, and PPS are clearly broken, and this school is direct proof of that. These teachers and administrators whine and ask for everything (take-take-take), using our children's education hostage - as leverage. Then after they get their way (after their temper tantrum), they give very little back to the tax payers who pay their salary and retirement. Every single person that is a part of the mess that is PPS should be embarrassed and ashamed. *Please note, this is not just some off-the-cuff superfluous rant out of anger and frustration, this review is based on two years of experiences and terrible education for our child.

Very impressed with the staff and school.Our daughter briefly went to a private school during and after COVID and I wasn’t sure what it would be like switching her back to a public school but the staff and studnets here are awesome.I love that there is more diversity at this school and am sad that most of my daughter’s new friends that came here from Rigler are not going to Grant with her.The principal, counselors, office staff and teachers have all been phenomenal and supportive of my daughter who also has some accomodations, etc.The parent participation is high here and years ago, I had heard that parents weren’t kept in the loop and there weren’t a lot of opportunities for volunteering or communication, but that has NOT been our experience. They text, email, send messages via the Remind app and I am notified of upcoming events, late days, homework, etc.The pricipal here Dr V is a wonderful lady and the children that go here are friendly. PPS is pretty amazing at teaching anti bullying in the early years and it shows because although not everyone likes each other, most respect one another and my daughter, who was bullied at the private Christian school never had any problems here.They also have a fabulous choir and band that most kids participate in. The one downside is there aren’t a lot of electives at this level but the ones that they do have, the teachers are dedicated and the children thrive!

I can't lie, a vast majority of people here love it. The only problem is the administration who are disrespectful to the students and the teachers. Most of the teachers are great and I am getting a great education here. I saw a lot of reviews saying that Grant is horrible, but I have to disagree. By far the best high school in PPS.
