Students are horrendous. Teachers could care less.

when we enrolled my daughter for first grade at Woodlawn elementary, we were told that she would have one of the best teachers in the school district. That he was even a bit of a celebrity. “mr.clegg” was to be her 1st grade teacher. Within the first couple weeks, he started training to be an administrator. Which means he was replaced by a substitute. This was the “norm” for the next several months. inconsistency between her real teacher and the substitute. To make things more frustrating, he goes on maternity leave when there’s three months left of school. For substitute teacher has not been checking her reading logs, and the kiddos writing has gotten sloppy because there’s nobody teaching her. I’m told that she gets to watch movies all day long and basically not learn anything?? On top of this, the substitute teacher had left her phone open in the middle of the room and they were very inappropriate pictures on there that I saw when dropping off my kid to class. Pictures of ladies wearing lingerie. When I informed the principal, she simply said. “i’ll make sure she puts her phone away during teaching time”. lol. if it had been a MAN substitute teacher with inappropriate photos on his phone I feel like he would’ve been fired immediately. on top of all of this/ we received several unnecessary comments about keeping our kid home sick. such as “we loose founding when she’s not in class” (not true, they received funding for every child that’s enrolled and they do not lose money if that child is not in the classroom) other comments included “if she just has the sniffles, please send her to school and the nurse will decide if she’s too sick to be here”. My kid had ongoing health issues for about six months and it took the doctors a long time to narrow it down. i never kept her home for “the sniffles”. she was even hospitalized at one point, I told them I would request 504 if they stop harassing me. my kiddo has also thrown up at the school and they decided not to send her home for whatever reason. apperently throwing up is not a reason to be sent home? in half of her medical absences were marked as “tardy.” not “excused”.

it is pretty good in comparison to other pps high schools. the middle college program is the best

My experience going here was good. There is a lot of old hate. The hype is from before covid; I will say it is underfunded and not giving a lot by pps, but I think it's all right for what they have. Also, the community is very connected, and they do big family events at least once a semester.
