10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is dangerous for our children and sets them up for drastic failure in future schools. There is so little internal communication; on more than one occasion my son was LOST for over an hour while going to a specialty class (he was hanging out in the library). If you child visits multiple teachers, they don t speak to each other. It s this lack of internal communication that allowed my son to be lost and no one even be alerted. In all fairness, I have run into a couple teachers that seem to really get it but they aren t the primary teacher and again, lack of communication puts my child risk. Educationally, there is little to no structure in the curriculum and even worse communication with parents. I never know what he s working on, never see homework, and can t get answers from the primary teacher. My child's report card states he is doing great, yet his test scores and independent assessments show him way below grade level. I m not one to write poor reviews, in fact I ve written great reviews about a previous school but I feel compelled to share. I wish I had known what we were facing before moving to this area.Parent Review15y ago8 Reviews - Smiths Station High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am very disappointed in this school. My daughter and her family recently moved into the district from another state. Our grandson is in 3rd grade. He is quite intelligent and gets very good grades. This school was near to expelling him for non-compliance after he had been there for 2 months. (He takes his time making decisions and did not always understand what the teacher was asking him to do.) The only thing the school asked to have done to help him succeed in school was for my daughter and son-in-law to give permission for corporal punishment to be administered by school personnel. They would not try putting him in another teacher's classroom or having a helper work with him or work with them in any other was. And, he never had a recess. I do not expect young children to sit in a classroom for 3-4 hours at a time without a break. Perhaps this is one reason why Alabama school children don't test very well on the national level. This school needs help!Other Review13y ago9 Reviews - Smith Station Freshman Ctr

"It evokes a sense of being part of a group and feeling connected to others. The only thing that I would encourage is that dog owner pick up behind their selves.. "

"The public transportation in Phenix city needs improvement. You must have a car or be willing to pay for Uber if you live in Phenix City. Traffic is not bad and it is quick to get around from place to place. "

"I have lived in smiths for 15 years I love the calmness of it and the quite peaceful place. And the trees are peaceful and so pretty. The schools are safe and take precautions with the students "

"Lots of dogs. And they bark constantly. And when I say lots of dogs, I mean it sounds like a dog pound outside. I’ve seen lots of kids around the neighborhood. Seems safe enough for them to be out and about playing in the streets. "

"Phenix city does not have covenants to protect you from seeing their junk everywhere! Also, around our home, most people do not have their dogs fenced in so you have to be careful while out walking or jogging. There isn’t a place to really take your pets either. Other than that, I have sweet neighbors close to our age who all have children at different ages and we feel safe in our home. "

"A lot of stray dogs and cats in the area. Some people ties a dog in the back yard. Leash laws not well enforced. Animal control is 30 miles away in another town "
