Small island in protected Point Baker harbor with road, air and marine access. Point Baker is located in the unorganized borough of Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area in Southeast, Alaska. Craig is the largest city on Prince of Wales Island. This land is privately owned and as per the planning and zoning in Craig, this island is outside any borough, city or municipality and there are no requirements, restrictions or taxes.
This island is in a beautiful area with great scenery and spectacular views. Although remote it is accessible by boat or plane. There are several ways to get there. You can catch the ferry to Ketchikan, then catch the daily Alaska Inter-Island Ferry from the same terminal in Ketchikan to Hollis on Prince of Wales Island and drive to Port Protection on the Prince of Wales road system. There you are within a few miles of Point Baker by vehicle and take a skiff from there. You can also fly Alaska Airlines to Ketchikan, Wrangell or Petersburg and charter in by water taxi or float plane. Point Baker has a small store, laundromat, post office, a 440 foot state dock with a fueling station and a seasonal saloon.
This island is approximately 6,100 sq feet in area. It is mostly solid rock with some shallow soil and small trees. Due to its proximity to Sumner Strait and the Stikine River, this area has some of the greatest fishing and seafood Alaska has to offer. You can catch halibut, salmon, crab and shrimp from the island itself to name a few. This is in a great area for outdoor activities of any kind. Sport fishing and wild game hunting are available in the area during season.
