"Grand Gorge is a pretty little hamlet in the Catskill mountains that has no real Ummmph . It is a wonderful place to relax but not much to do here. There is very little to do here. Not much shopping either. If you need rest it is wonderful here for that or if you are artistic and love to paint of take pictures there is plenty of wildlife and greenery. There is only an antique center in town, a dollar store and a gas station with some quickie mart items. For food there is the quickie mart for a hot dog, a pizza shop that is not that good, a hot dog wagon, a diner going towards stamford that too is not that good and a Ice Cream joint that serves hamburgers and other fast food items. There is also a farm store and a post office. Some privately owned repair centers for cars or other items. A local plumber who sells Kitchens and baths, a Army Navy Store and a Motel. That is the extent of it. You have to go into the sister town of Roxbury if you want to enjoy a larger park setting. There is a Golf Course and some privately owned Horse Stables here and there. I enjoy living in Grand Gorge because I love peace and quiet. I love the sounds of the nearby brook and behind my house the mini waterfall. I love waking up in the morning to see the Woodchuck washing his face in my pond or a deer taking a drink in it. I love the croaking of the frogs at night. Once in a while the big black bear pays me a visit. Every day is a new adventure. The scenery changes each day. One day you will see a green tree, next day a painted forest. It's beauty makes up for the lack of night life. By the time evening comes you are so sleepy and are ready for bed at 9:00. The rushing of the water and the croaking of the frogs sing you a lullaby and before you know it is morning. You be the judge. All it takes is one day here in the mountain and you will be hooked for life. You will never want to leave. "
