This is the best elementary school I've seen, and I've worked in several. My own kids attended another elementary school before moving to Columbia, and Porter is the most wonderful school community by far. The teachers truly care about their students and recognize the potential in each student; my 1st grader's teacher could see the same strengths and potential in my child that I see myself, and would encourage her learning in a way that was not just beneficial for her future, but also for her self esteem and overall well-being. That is the epitome of a great teacher. My other child has grown exponentially at Porter, after returning to in-school learning after a year of online schooling during the pandemic. Her teacher is definitely a huge part of her growth, socially, emotionally, and educationally. This school has truly excellent teachers and staff that care about their students, the school community, and families. The administration really does a great job choosing and retaining such wonderful staff.
