Land The acreage consists of 960 +/- deeded acres with approximately 885 +/- acres of tillable cropland. 485 +/- acres are planted to corn in 30" rows, skipping every third row; to be picked as ear corn this fall. Grass sorghum (often called milo) is planted in the remainder 400 acres of the Haakon County Hideout for forage production. This crop is often promoted for upland bird habitat, while serving as an effective food source for a variety of big game animals. The two spring fed stock dams, also supported by the Long Branch or Plum Creek are comprised of 4 +/- acres providing year-round water access to be used for livestock: if one desired. Recreation An array of resources provides a diverse range of wildlife, making every aspect of big game hunting available at the Haakon County Hideout. The areas fed by both the Long Branch and Plum Creek act as corridors for an abundance of wildlife onto the property. Unit 31/Haakon County produces outstanding Whitetail and Mule Deer hunting, nothing short of World Class. You will also find herds of Antelope freely roaming the property after harvest is complete. The Grasslands of this region is the epicenter of sharp-tailed grouse and greater prairie chickens, that both birding and hunting enthusiasts have come to appreciate. These species have evolved to withstand the harsh South Dakota weather and environmental extremities, that repeatedly push back at them. Additionally, South Dakota is known for the best pheasant hunting in the country. According to the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, the last time hunters harvested less than 1 million roosters during season was in 1992 and that year's count was about 970,000. Not to mention, the Lower Oahe of the Missouri River is just an hour from away. The reservoir is a walleye fishing destination for anglers across the country and has been referred to as the "walleye factory." This system is known for producing good numbers of walleye, with additional trophy potential for a variety of game fish. Location The Haakon County Hideout is located 40 miles north of Philip or 37 miles west from Hayes, in North Central South Dakota. The Pierre Regional Airport is approximately 1 hour away and handles multiple commercial flights per day. Commercial flights are available through Denver Air Connection and SkyWest, as well as accommodations for charter services with Mustang Aviation. Fences and Boundaries Boundaries of the property are fenced with a four wire fence for four miles, with two and a half miles are unfenced. No warranties about the location of the fence lines will be made in relationship to the deeded property lines. The property is being sold as the location of the fences currently exist, based on boundaries shown on the legal description. According to the Haakon County Treasurer, the taxes for 2021 due in 2022 are $1,528.44.
