NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy granddaughter attended Lamar County Primary for kindergarten. She is medically diagnosed ADHD and mildly on the Autism spectrum. If her work was not completely finished during the school day, she was kept inside from recess AND was not allowed to go to specials (music, PE, etc.). Not only did the teacher admit to this in a meeting which I attended, the class paraprofessional wrote it in my granddaughter's agenda more than once. Worse, the school administration backed the teacher in the meeting. The parents asked that any unfinished work be sent home and assured the teacher it would be completed, but she continued withholding recess instead. The teacher, principal, and assistant principal were defensive, rude and combative during the meeting. They refused to consider my granddaughter for an IEP or even a 504 plan because her diagnosis was not affecting her academics, but their academic standards were incredibly low. The class had twenty seven students in it; way too many for kindergarten. It was a miserable year that ended with my granddaughter hating school. Lamar County Schools might be fine if you have an average student, but it is definitely not the place for special ed or gifted students. It would appear that they cannot accommodate anything outside the norm.Other Review3y ago3 Reviews - Lamar County Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn a two parent family where the parents are not married, it has been a horrible experience in school communication with BOTH parents. One parent has allowed excessive absences and truly nothing was done to enforce the truancy laws. EIP support good through elementary school but not so much at the middle grades. Not impressed with the counselor/social worker in this county. Child left behind. I do not recommend.Other Review1y ago7 Reviews - Lamar County Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm a senior in Highschool and my bus driver has had breakdowns due to the students at this school. She wrote this 5th grader up over 4 TIMES. FOUR.! And that usually bans the students from riding the bus, but y'all decided to just make the boy write an essay. Do you know how awful that is to just ignore the disciplinary actions? My bus driver had to stop a kid from choking her child. That's even worse!! The administrators do absolutely nothing when everything is on tape. How about you try to drive a bus full of kids that won't stop clapping for 30 minutes and see if you wanna deal with that for the school year and no matter how hard you try, your higher-ups won't do anything about it. You'll have parents talking bad about you because the child makes it to where the driver is in the wrong. The main reason why these kids aren't respectful for having bus drivers that get them home and to school safely is because the parents do not care. They really don't and they think their child will do nothing wrong at that age until sooner or later, they'll get put into TLC and the parents throw a hissy-fit. Absolutely disgusting actions from Lamar County.Other Review3y ago5 Reviews - Check out schools near E.
