5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm a alumni here I recently graduated from Life Academy/ Life Academy is an excellent school the teacher really care about their student and their after school program really help keep the student out of trouble. This school might be different from other high school in Oakland because this high school focus on health and bio-science which will lead your son or daughter to explore the medical field. The Principle and staff work really hard to keep the school a safe and learning environment.Student Review13y ago5 Reviews - Urban Promise Academy

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am thankful for UPA because there are very good teachers, a nice principal, and an excellent parent coordinator, Glendy Cordero, at the school. There is a free salad bar for the students, four days a week thanks to Glendy, Ana, and the parents that help. I am also thankful for the program that teaches parents to learn about computers. Now, we can comunicate in e-mail with the school and see the grades of our children, etc.Parent Review14y ago8 Reviews - United For Success Academy

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school has a lot of community input and the staff works very hard to fall into compliance with the policies and directions of the district, county, state, and nation. The school uses a dual immersion model for instruction where part of the day is in English and part of the day in Spanish. Some classes are fully bilingual, while others work with credentialed Spanish teachers and credentialed English teachers to deliver the curriculum to the students. Students still take state tests for the most part. With all of parties involved from the community, to the staff, to the district, all playing such an active role in the education of these students you have to wonder why they haven’t been successful in achieving higher test scores in spite of their efforts. Are there larger problems in the community or in the district or in the state or county that are preventing students from this school from having scores that correlate with successful outcomes as students pass developmental milestones.Other Review3y ago3 Reviews - Home And Hospital Program

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTeachers are generally compassionate and demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the needs of all students. The linked learning program is moving in a positive direction and their tailored Newcomer program helps English language learners succeed. I'm encouraged to learn that their internship program has tripled over the last 3 years. There currently is a construction project on site, which includes a new 2 story building, updated on-site clinic and a new stadium/gym to replace their current 90yd football field. The project is expected to be complete by winter of 2020.Other Review7y ago1 Reviews - Check out schools near E 16th St.

"I have been living in this neighborhood for over a decade, and my connection to Oakland spans more than 20 years. During this time, I have witnessed a significant rise in violence in the area, which has become increasingly concerning. Alongside this troubling trend, the cost of living has also skyrocketed, making it challenging for long-term residents to thrive. Given these circumstances, I am seriously considering relocating elsewhere, seeking a community that is safer and more affordable. While I hold hope that, much like advancements in technology, there will eventually be effective solutions to combat this violence, I can't help but feel that those perpetuating it may need to experience the consequences of their actions firsthand. It’s a difficult situation that weighs heavily on my mind as I navigate the changes in the city I once loved."

"Closer to everything! Tight space but great for all and overall. If you are planning on living here due to work, then welcome aboard but if you are looking to settle tour life and start a life here. Yeah, reconsider elsewhere where is cheaper and calmer. Yet if you lived here all your life and still want to settle for a home here then you know what you're getting into already. The community is okay. They won’t start anything if you don’t provoke and keep the nose clean out of their problems. But that’s all up to everyone’s morals and beliefs. Overall a safer and cleaner part of the Bayarea."
