5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe recently switched into MLK from the private and charter systems. This switch was due to several issues within the private and charter systems that began to become evident post covid. Things we’ve noticed on this particular campus: the principal is extremely proactive on this campus. She does not blow off parent or student concerns. She addresses each issue, as we have witnessed. Her timing may not be immediate, which could upset some parents, but honestly, some situations need time to be evaluated and the campus has a lot of students, making immediate action difficult at times. Prioritizing is a key component of a successful administrator. The teachers are qualified. Compared to a specific homeschool system in this district and several surrounding private schools, the teachers in the public system are highly qualified (for the most part). Although I personally disagree with any crossing of political, social, or gender preferences on school campuses, we have only heard of a few teachers who outwardly promote these agendas (but we have not experienced these teachers). The school offers a number of electives, a decent PE system, clean classrooms, and extra curricular options. There are a good deal of students and that allows for students to find their own group and support system. Middle school is tough. Middle school has always been tough. From our perspective, taking into consideration countless friends and family members who attend more affluent schools, they face the same challenges and complain about the same issues that we hear parents at this school discuss. We do not see any great difference between this middle school and one in a more affluent area. Our kids say this school actually has less fights and less mean kids than some of the surrounding city schools that are more affluent.Parent Review5mo ago31 Reviews - El Camino High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been attending this school since kindergarten and is now in 1st grade. Unfortunately, the experience has been incredibly disappointing due to the lack of leadership and communication from the principal. While my son was in kindergarten, he was physically assaulted by another student. I was never notified by the school. I only found out recently—from my child himself—that both students were sent to the principal’s office. The fact that no one thought to inform me is absolutely unacceptable. The principal has shown zero accountability and clearly does not prioritize student safety or parent communication. If you’re considering this school, please be aware: your child’s well-being and your right to be informed may not be taken seriously here.I would not recommend this school to any parent until there’s a change in leadership and accountability.Parent Review1y ago26 Reviews - Check out schools near Douglas Dr.

"The dog owners are very kind and responsible with their dogs. They don’t let them bark all day long like some neighborhoods do. It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood as far as barking dogs. They pick up after pets too! "

"Nice and relaxing feel with an overall family friendly atmosphere. In my neighborhood, the HOA does a good job of having everyone maintain their properties. "

"I live about 10-15 minutes from the freeway without any traffic. I work in San Diego so it takes me about an hour to get to work in the morning without traffic and and hour and a half to get home in traffic. "

"The parks are nice. I do wish people would be more mindful of not bringing glass that breaks and can end up in the play areas. "

"what I love the most about this neighborhood is we over look the Marine Base, and because that you get a lot of wild life, the sound of the frogs in the spring is deafening yet charming, also I am 1 mile from my barn where I board my horse. It feels like we live in the country instead of the suburbs. I live in the eastern portion of Oceanside, and this area is horse country, mainly Thoroughbreds. The San Luis Rey Training center for race horses is about 5 miles from my house. It is a quiet and very safe neighborhood."
