Description

Tucked away in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and completely surrounded by the George Washington National Forest, this rare homestead offers unmatched seclusion, privacy, and self-sufficiency. Located just minutes from the West Virginia border, the setting feels worlds away—ideal for those seeking a simpler, quieter lifestyle or a unique recreational retreat. The charming 1900-built farmhouse features four bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms, a large kitchen perfect for canning and cooking, and generous dining and living spaces with room for the whole family or guests. The home retains the character of its early roots while offering the essentials needed for comfortable year-round living. Multiple outbuildings provide excellent infrastructure for a wide variety of uses—whether you need a workshop, equipment storage, or additional farm support buildings. The property is already home to chickens, ducks, pigs, and a horse, with plenty of fenced space and natural resources to expand your operation. Garden beds and space for beekeeping round out the self-sustaining potential of this one-of-a-kind mountain retreat. Bordered on all sides by tens of thousands of acres of national forest, you'll enjoy direct access to premier hunting for whitetail deer, black bear, and turkey, as well as endless hiking, foraging, and exploring right out your back door. The surrounding wilderness ensures total privacy with no visible neighbors in sight. Whether you're looking to create a full-time homestead, launch a one-of-a-kind Airbnb, or secure a private hunting and recreation base camp, this Appalachian property offers the freedom, solitude, and opportunity that's getting harder and harder to find.

"The neighbors are very nice and friendly. The school system is very great, close to the YMCA, close to hospitals and doctors great grocery stores."
  • Christina Bowen
"I live in a rural part of Covington where there isn’t any public transportation available. It is a wonderfully quiet area and I am very happy to be here. "
  • Leonhardtashley
"it's nice if you stay on the other side of town away from the mill. that side of town is okay, depending on the street but the mill is terrible to look at and smell"
  • Wade.guillory
"There is a farmers market on Saturdays and local sports team events that enable the community to come together. "
  • Hannah T.
"It’s a great place to live. Awfully small, an everybody knows everybody town. High poverty rate but is nice. "
  • kastwilightgem
"Unless your physically fit, mowing the lawn is nearly impossible. Not only is it on a cliff, the front yard is concave! One of the side yards floods every time it rains. Both trees in the front yard are dead and ready to fall onto the house down below. The driveway is pitched at a 45 degree downward slope. The carport also floods. The nearest city is fifteen minutes away. It has minimal shopping, nightlife and dining. There are only three parks; all extremely small and lacking. The main street in downtown consists mostly empty store fronts. Worse, just a few blocks away is the largest paper mill in the United States of America. Talk about stink! "
