Tolar High seems to operate under the influence of long-standing relationships and local politics, which significantly affects the school's atmosphere and fairness. Students who have lived in Tolar their whole lives, or whose parents own businesses in town or have family members on the board/administration, often appear to receive preferential treatment—regardless of the severity of their behavior. Meanwhile, newcomers—particularly girls—face a much tougher social environment. We witnessed troubling behavior (from being followed in and away from school, property vandalized to damaging and unmerited allegations), that was largely ignored, due to inconsistent leadership and the factors mentioned above. Yet, despite the severity of these incidents, the school took no action against those responsible. Advised by a friend and former parent of a TISD student (who attended from Junior High through Sophomore year) not to move there, especially for high school. Disappointing to say the least
