6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a great rural school. There are pros and cons to a small school. There are a limited number of teachers and often limited opportunities. At Custer County you have the problem of limited teachers. If your student doesn't like the Spanish teacher there isn't another to chose from, as in a city school. The BIG pro is that the teachers are, for the most part, excellent. They are caring and work to give students the best possible education. WHat I have loved about it as my kids have gone through ( both began in kindergarten) is that there are abundant opportunities. Unlike a city school kids are not pigeon holed into one activity. At Custer County kids are encouraged to try everything and be involved. Kids can be a "band nerd" and a football player....or a "drama geek" and in FFA. There are not the traditional boundaries or cliques. What I think is amazing is the way this district has kept the arts, ag education, building trades and Advance Placement classes in this time of huge budget cuts and declining enrollment. This is a great school. I am glad my children graduated from here and I wish my grandkids had a school as good in the city they live in.Parent Review12y ago - Custer County Elementary School
