NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagethis is a terrible school.. the whole district is. the staff doesn't handle bullies at all. kids are just told to ignore the bullies!! yeah that works.. they are consolidated schools so that is going to make it worse. staff won't open the front doors in the morning until it is time to start school. so kids have to stand out in the snow and rain..Parent Review12y ago3 Reviews - Ernie Davis Academy

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy school is a very culturally diverse school. There are many different groups of teenagers. They are all unique in their own way. If you want to expose your child to many great sports this would be the school to do so. We have great sports team including our state champs the Elmira Express Varsity Football team and the STAC west champs the Elmira Express Girls Varsity Soccer team. We strive for excellence at this school and have a wide variety of clubs and different activities for the school. Our drama program is one of the tops in the tri-sate area. We have done many plays throughout the years all getting great reviews in the newspapers and on the internet. Our staff works their best to keep our school great and in line. They the students success here. We have 2 languages taught here at EFA, Spanish and French. We also have clubs after school so we can practice all of the different cultures. I love being a part of my school and even though I am already a senior I plan on attending more of the sporting events and supporting our drama club and of course coming back to visit all of my favorite teachers here at my beloved school. So send you child here for a well rounded education.Student Review12y ago4 Reviews - Diven School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was hesitant to enroll my children in the Elmira City School District when we moved here because of the GreatSchools rating, which was very low. But our experience has been wonderful. The staff are friendly, supportive, and communicative. The kids are happy. They have two playgrounds at the school and two courtyards, so kids regularly get out of class. They have outside organizations come to school to teach the kids art and culture (Rockwell Museum and Chemung Valley History Museum come to mind), which aren't officially part of the curriculum, but the leadership believes that it's important--and so do I. They do field trips to the pumpkin patch in the fall, to the park in the Spring. It really is a great school.Parent Review5y ago2 Reviews - Hendy Avenue School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children transferred into Hendy last year from another private elementary school. They were quite challenged by the work and enjoyed it. The teachers they have had are wonderful and caring. The ELA and Science programs are excellent. Teachers are easily accessible via email for quick questions or any concerns.Parent Review12y ago2 Reviews - Elmira High School

"There are a lot of dogs in this area. There is even. Dog park in Elmira. However not a lot of owners pick up after their dogs so there is a lot of feces when you’re walk the streets. I personally worry my dog may catch something so I wash his feet regularly "

"Nothing pretty much, people don’t really talk to each other where I live. Last year we got only one trick or treater, people usually go to neighborhoods on the “rich” or west side. "

"I know a lot of local volunteer firefighters in the community which are great to know. Walking down the street, people say hello and wave which is very nice. Some sidewalks could use some repairs. There isn’t a whole lot of traffic through the area which is nice. "

"Within good distance, could be better though but the area as a whole is boring and small townish. Most things are close but for some they have to drive to the next town/county over to get to work as the job selection here is not the greatest."

"I retired and moved South to a warmer climate and ocean. I used to walk this charming are with best architectural older home that are mostly Georgean and Tutor built in the 20's and 30's. These homes near Boston, DC or NYC would go for 10x their value in Elmira."

"I have lived in this area for almost 10 years. It is a great place to live. Always lots of people out walking in the neighborhood year round. Lots of kids and minimal traffic since it the neighborhood is not a cut through to anywhere. 2-3 miles to major shopping areas. 10 minutes to Corning and Elmira. Lots of recreation/entertainment in the area. Proximity to highways, easy to get on and off. Higher education opportunities close by with CCC and Elmira College. Good public and private schools nearby as well. A lot of athletic fields in the community for recreation opportunities and public use. "
