"Block parties and fairs and markets"
  • Ashleymlockwood
"There’s a huge community park that is very dog friendly. This park has numerous different hiking trails of various lengths and difficulties, all of which are dog friendly. In addition there is Barboursville fenced in “dog park”. Most people seem to be very courteous about cleanup from their animals. Further more most, if not all the shops in town are dog friendly, meaning they will allow your well behaved leashed friend into the shops. There is always people walking around the village and neighborhood with their fur babies. There are several local dog groomers and kennels. There are numerous dog enthusiasts who privately groom and board your dogs. Moreover there are several veterinarians within a just a few miles. It’s not at all uncommon to have trick-or-treaters with their dogs in tow all dressed up in Halloween costumes. This is not to say that there are loads of cat hate here, quite the opposite. However, overwhelmingly Barboursville and the surrounding areas are unquestionably very dog friendly and most families have dogs. "
  • Ashleymlockwood
"This is a small town that has been very well managed, and is a surprisingly robust place for business. "
  • Tj C.
"Schools are top notch! Crime is low and your kids can play in your backyard without being heavily monitored!"
  • Cacgalloway
"Great area and by far the best place to live in the state of West Virginia. Close to parks, mall and many other shopping areas. "
  • Jodiahcollege
"The police are great to watch over the children before and after school, as they enter and leave the school. It is a safe community and very old fashioned "
  • Abbie B.
"Great places to walk your dog, if you have a dog that's aggressive towards other dogs it may be a problem, there are lots of dogs in this area."
  • Erneststonebreaker
"People are kind Streets need fixed , town is small not much for a person to do unless it’s going to Church, work or out to eat. It’s a college town with hometown cuteness, and it’s the people that make it special. Jobs are limited and it seems like people are in clicks but they can surprise you. "

"I love Barboursville! It’s so convenient and well maintained by a great police department, everything is close, good schools and a nice park; the only downfall is the dog breed restrictions."
  • Courtney
"This area is beautiful, convenient, and has a great police department that keeps the area very safe. The only very unfortunate downfall is that the city has BSL, if you have pets, check into that before living in city limits! The park is great and it’s close to the mall and grocery stores!"
  • Nathan S.
"The quietness. It’s such a small area so you can just take the back roads and drive for hours and hours and hours and then get home by supper"
  • William J. B.
"It’s a nice big neighborhood and everybody is really friendly. No crime and no shady people live here either so it’s a nice little community."
  • white94
"Such a great place to live! Only 10 minutes to the interstate, shopping & entertainment and only 25 minutes from downtown Huntington. Large circle around the lake with dead-end streets that shoot off. Very well lit for evening walks and with the dead-end streets there's not much traffic. The HOA contracts a local resident to mow the common areas and pick up trash during the warmer months. Martha Elementarty/Barboursville Middle/Cabell Midland are all great schools."
  • Sue K.
"I live here. It has been a great family house. We've lied here for 20 years. It is a wonderful neighborhood for children.. No traffic, no crime, and it only takes 20-25 minutes to get to Huntington and 10 to interstate and the mall."
