Lots of bullying at this school. Principal is clueless on how to handle it. No communication with parents about their kids. School looks good on outside but is a scary place for our keiki. Thank goodness for A+ program, even though not teachers, they care about lot about the kids and help with homework. Would be a better school if they got rid of bad prIncipal.

Love this small Highschool in south Kona! The staff and teachers are wonderful and although this school doesn’t offer a lot of bells and whistles, they make up for it with compassion and aloha ! Love this school !

Konawaena Middle School (KMS) offers little to no effort to be the epitome of a standard school. It’s CRUCIAL for students to feel safe and respected in their learning environment for effective education and growth. As a student, my concerns about staff behavior and the environment are UNACCEPTABLE and should be addressed for a better school experience.I do NOT support any recommendations for your student to attend Konawaena. Teachers and staff prove that adults can be worse than kids. They show no standards of being a supportive and loving teacher. Safety speaks for itself. Modly staircases, classrooms being held in a HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS room due to no extra classrooms, no drainages for rain, poor campus layout, unsafe learning environment, and so on. If you are looking for a middle school in Kona for your student to attend, I would gladly recommend Innovations, Makua Lani Christian Academy, and Kealakehe Intermediate School. For more, use this website and thoroughly study some schools best for your child, JUST NOT KMS!SAFETY-The campus alone has no safety protocols. All sidewalks are cracked and unclean, causing injuries such as slipping, falling, dirty clothes, etc. There is always frequent construction 2-4 hours a DAY causing students to reroute their paths between classes, which can’t be waited until after school, when no one is around. Students' safety is being unnoticed, resulting in major problems that affect both the student's mental health and learning. (Physically)FAMILY ENGAGEMENT-The only proper paper that engages a family with their child's learning is a report card. 0% of papers are given to students that are supposed to be “engaging” and beneficial to a student's learning. What a disgrace!LEARNING, TEACHING AND SPED. EDUCATION- Students are taught in a poor and awful environment, let alone the teachers. No respect, motivation, materials, engagement, and barely ANY substitutes resulting in a core class to be held in a PE class instead of doing math. Teachers are not prepared for a lesson to be taught, and students do not feel satisfied with what they are being taught. Those who need special assistance aren’t being fulfilled with what they need. Moreover, most kids speak English as their secondary language… and don’t have any assistance with that as well. As a student, learning feels like torture, (In this terrible school.)
