3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI go to Bret Harte and it's really fun. The teachers care about the students, they actually have common sense, and we're very CONNECTED and EMPOWERED by them. The electives and clubs you can join are also great, especially the music programs like band, guitar and orchestra. Chock full of very passionate music kids. The school library is better than some Oakland branches, the librarian is the absolute best, the kids run book club (best club ever!!!!!!!!!) and there's a TON of different books. If you actually pay attention in class, that's pretty interesting too. PLEASE COME TO BRET HARTE WE NEED THE STUDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Student Review8mo ago25 Reviews - Sequoia Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSince the new principal took over the school has gone from ok to worse. She has on several occasions mistreated my special needs son, including improperly restraining him. She has called names and has treated students poorly. The after care is a joke.. they recently lost a child who wandered off . it is pure chaos and teachers with little to no experience this year, including a Sub who took over in my Childs class who had never taken his own class.. while he has tried and generally been great, he is not equipped for a SN student in his first year . I do not reccomend this school.. there are some good teachers and the office staff has been amazing but the rest has been very very hardParent Review4y ago46 Reviews - Skyline High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSkyline has provided my student with challenging classes and very supportive teachers and staff. From what I've seen and experienced, teachers take a strong interest in students and really want them to succeed. There are so many clubs, sports and student activities for students to choose from. The track and field and cross country programs in particular are heavily invested in and are some of the best high school athletic programs I've seen. There are innumerable resources and opportunities if your student is willing and able to go after them.Parent Review5mo ago23 Reviews - Home And Hospital Program

"Piedmont Pines is a wonderful neighborhood. There is lots of wildlife, trees, and access to hiking trails. There is good freeway access for commuting. The neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Neighbors really care about one another. There is a great sense of community including annual get-togethers. There are plenty of stores for easy shopping in Montclair. There is also a good variety of nearby restaurants to choose from. "

"I lived in this neighborhood for over 5 decades. Sold my house to downsize. Sadly, I had to give us the best neighbors, community, and friends. Upper Peralta Creek neighborhood is a hidden gem. It is a very friendly neighborhood. "

"I have been living in this neighborhood for over a decade, and my connection to Oakland spans more than 20 years. During this time, I have witnessed a significant rise in violence in the area, which has become increasingly concerning. Alongside this troubling trend, the cost of living has also skyrocketed, making it challenging for long-term residents to thrive. Given these circumstances, I am seriously considering relocating elsewhere, seeking a community that is safer and more affordable. While I hold hope that, much like advancements in technology, there will eventually be effective solutions to combat this violence, I can't help but feel that those perpetuating it may need to experience the consequences of their actions firsthand. It’s a difficult situation that weighs heavily on my mind as I navigate the changes in the city I once loved."

"Glass and needles, trash, loud noises at night (gunshots, fireworks, explosions) not many grassy areas or dog parks that are safe and kept clean. But 20 minute walk to lake Merritt (in front of fairyland) where you can socialize your dog. The downtown area is much cleaner than the neighborhoods below telegraph going towards west Oakland. "

"Beautiful community and well-maintained by HOA. Neighbors are friendly. I’ve lived here for 4 years and feel very safe and peaceful living here. Have to be careful with car break-ins, like anywhere else in Oakland - it’s best to keep your car clean with nothing inside to attract theft."

"I love living here, very close to SF and west oakland bart. Don't look for trouble and it won't find you. Go home at night, and lock your doors, and you'll be safe. Not a lot going on here, no real restaurants, or coffee places. However, you can just go to SF in less than 10 mins. No need to pay SF jacked prices, when West Oakland will do just fine. "
