My children have attended this school since Kindergarten. While our experience in the early grades was very positive, things changed significantly once they reached 4th and 5th grade. At that point, the quality of the learning environment seemed to decline. The teachers often appear overwhelmed, and students are frequently sent to the office for minor issues—sometimes spending more time there than in the classroom learning.Bullying was also a major concern last year, with very little visible action taken by the principal or assistant principal. The leadership does not seem proactive. The principal, in particular, does not go out of her way to support students or parents, and conversations with her are often repetitive and unproductive, leaving me feeling frustrated and without clear direction.Additionally, my son’s NWEA test scores were very low. When I scheduled an IEP meeting, I was surprised to learn that he had simply been clicking through the test without putting in effort. This should have been communicated during parent-teacher conferences rather than being discovered only because I requested a meeting.I strongly believe the school needs to make a greater effort to engage with students and families, rather than simply going through the motions. While there are a few exceptional teachers here who truly care and make a difference, the lack of effective leadership—particularly from the principal—has been very discouraging.
