7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from Atlanta area (Decatur) to Rabun county after touring schools in 9 other counties. With the rapid decline of Dekalb county schools, Rabun county almost felt like an impossibility. After 2 years now, with kids in the high school, primary and now elementary we couldn’t be happier! These schools, these teachers and the administration at the school level (I haven’t interacted with higher level administrators) is unbelievable in this day and age. I have so many teachers in my extended family and they are all shocked (pleasantly) at the Rabun schools and the community engagement . There is only one school for each level in this county due to smaller population, but each faculty is great, clean and modern. There certainly could be challenges with a few teachers and there are episodes of kids acting out but it is a mere fraction of what we have seen in larger city schools. Almost no violence and amazing security with some great officers. I can’t say enough of the care that has been shown to my younger children, one of which is hearing impaired. The school has gone to great lengths to accommodated him. In his past school he was placed with students that were severely disabled, and many that were completely nonverbal. He is high intelligence but has hearing impairment. That requires some attention but he is very able to learn. When we first moved here, we made the decision to hold our younger children back one year due to the massive learning loss during Covid in Atlanta area schools. This school has done anything and everything that could be asked, and my children have shown amazing improvement and at grade level. We are so grateful to Rabun County schoolsParent Review2y ago2 Reviews - Rabun County Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRabun County Middle School is a well run organization, the staff/teachers care about the children. We did have a few issues with teacher assignments but the administration remediated the issue and address our concerns. I have nothing but praise for this administration, they are engaged, open and helpful at all times. Some newer teachers of late come from other county schools, they were advanced/honors teachers prior, causing Rabun County children to struggled with the subject matter in the beginning. As a parent I enjoyed the subject matter and creativity these new teachers bring which in-time will improve the overall curriculum. Our child is not the perfect child, so we experienced a few punishments, which at times seemed over reaching, but I am sure my student did not make the same mistake again. There are not enough slots for all students on sports teams in Middle or High School. This is not an "everybody get's a trophy" school so not every child has a place on a team, so there is character building aspect to this process. The transition from Middle School to High School is here our student was engaged in sports throughout Middle School but was not selected for any team next year 9th grade, even though she tried out for multiple sports including cheerleading. This is unfortunate because she will miss the interaction with upper classman and the comradery of participating on a "team".Parent Review1y ago3 Reviews - Rabun County Primary School

"No public transportation but I am close to town. It’s not bad. Sometimes town can be busy from outsiders but it’s okay "

"Lack of dog parks would be a negative. Overall, very pet friendly place. Very nice places to eat, coffee shops, small town vibe. "

"Almost no sidewalks but if you live on a back road there’s not too much traffic. It’s a no leash law county so that can be a plus or a negative, depending how you look at it"

"Very rural and quiet. We had a Black Bear cub come into the front yard this past weekend. He was just looking for something to eat."

"This area is relatively rural, but there is always something happening in Clayton. There are plenty of excellent places to eat, and there is always plenty of outdoor activities available. Fishing, hiking, and trail riding, and during certain seasons there are festivals."

"I live on the side of a mountain and retired. My “commute” is to church, grocery store, out to eat or locally shopping. I’m about 20 minuets from downtown. No traffic "

"I am currently living in the home I was raised in right in downtown Clayton. It certainly has changed from what it used to be. We have free music entertainment on the weekends because we can hear bands from the Wicked Pig and Universal Joint from our house. Overall it is still a quaint and friendly place to live. "

"You feel like you are miles away, but you are 5 minutes to Clayton. Also, 12 minutes to the Chattooga. Very safe. And very quiet."
