"Natural beauty everywhere. Cultural events many--music, lectures, art galleries and book stores. Good restaurants in the summer. Low cost of living, especially food. A car is essential. Each small town has a lot of civic pride, and have farm market days in the summer. Brooklin has The Cave--a wonderful place to find the perfect bottle of wine, the best cheese selection in the state and very friendly. We have been vacationed here for more than 20 years and would live here if not so removed from our other family members. Winters are much loved by the locals, but I think some might find it a little isolating. Walking is only a challenge on the main roads--no sidewalks in most places. You don't have to live on the water to have access to it. There is great sailing and kayaking and public access to most ponds and bays."
