7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA few safety issues. For a long period of time the front door was unlocked at all times, the lock did not work. My main concern is that it is well known that random people not attending the school can come in and walk around for hours without being noticed by staff. I attended for four years and the same sinks that were broken freshman year still did not work senior year. Some staff are great, while others are punitive. Parking spots are also few and far between. There’s also no measurements taken against bullying. I’ve seen students throw drinks at other students in the midst of class and the teachers would not say anything. Pickup at the end of the day is also a nightmare, as parents park in the middle of the road or on the grass to pick up their children, it is an unsafe environment for novice drivers to navigate.Student Review1y ago18 Reviews - O Henry Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe’ve had an amazing experience at Zilker. We love the community events, the Principal is very engaged and seems to care a lot, it’s a great, inviting environment and our student is excited to goto school everyday! The facilities could certainly be newer, but it doesn’t seem to be negatively impacting the experience.Parent Review5mo ago16 Reviews - Check out schools near 3307 Clawson Rd.

"Super close to the freeway and honestly tucked away so hardly any traffic ever and I love it and would definitely recommend the area. The only downside is is sometimes the homeless population gets a little out of control and can be quite aggressive. They also dumpster dive very frequently, but for the most part, they are really nice and respectful."

"Lovely neighborhood. Urban yet really homey still. There is some crime but that’s expected anywhere around here. "

"There is plenty of green space to walk your dog, and most people are good about cleaning up after their pets. Traffic isn’t too heavy, so it’s comfortable to walk with a dog on most sidewalks."

"There are a lot of well-maintained parks and green spaces for walking and playing with dogs. There aren’t many fenced dog parks, but there’s enough room for play time on a longer leash!"

"Work from home but neighborhood is centrally located and easily accessible to major high ways. There seems be less traffic moving south to north compared to traffic moving north to south on MoPac expressway and I-35"

"Good access to public transportation; although I do not use it, it seems many others do! A little traffic-y but nothing abnormal to typical downtown Austin areas. "

"Commute to downtown is 7-9 min. Commute to work is about 15-25 minutes. It’s about 12 min. to anywhere I would like to be."

"Trying to leave the area due to the homeless population and the lose and feel of a safe place. It used to be unique with the older homes but as of now they are all being torn down. It’s not the same "

"Terrible. With no traffic my commute to downtown is about 10min. Naturally, I work during typical business hours which means my commute is about an hour. Traffic is terrible everywhere in this city. It’s pretty amazing. "

"There are dogs everywhere! Most restaurants and bars have patios and permit dogs on the premises. They even provide water bowls for you to use. The only negative I can think of was when my apartment complex did DNA testing on all the dogs in the complex. On the upside, they did it to try to get people to clean up after their pets."

"South Lamar has the feel of Austin and is just close enough to all the craziness without being in it every day. The neighborhood has everything you could possibly need. I have 4 grocery stores, 3 gyms, a Target, and countless restaurants, doctor's offices, and groomers within walking distance. Not to mention some closer-to-home nightlife."

"This area is awesome. 78704 is the heart beat of South Austin. You are close to all the cool shopping on South Lamar & Congress. Easy access to Hwy 71/290 (Ben White Blvd - Loop 360), restaurants, Central Market, movie theaters, and the new Radio coffee house! It takes about 10 minutes to get downtown on a weekday morning work commute coming down Lamar to Barton Springs, and then South 1st (Guadalupe) into downtown. There you'll find Ladybird lake, the renown hike and bike trail, 6th Street, and all the rest of wonderful downtown Austin. Just take Lamar to downtown, Hwy 71 to the hill country (Fredericksburg ...), or just enjoy 78704 and the vibrancy yet relaxed atmosphere of a wonderful part of Austin! "
