10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two students in this school, one just graduated and had many post-HS college opportunities. The school offers a supportive environment, a wide variety of both trade- and college-track classes and extra-curricular opportunities. Like any public school, it has its limits, counselors being overwhelmed and tech/schedule software being frustrating. Also, there is a new principle since those old bad reviews.Parent Review1y ago7 Reviews - Smith (C. L.) Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy two kids have been attending CL Smith for four years now. I had to enroll them both in outside education because CL Smith can't seem to educate. The leadership lies and violates parent's rights. It's really not a school to send your kids to. Hawthorne has a much better system. The principal at Hawthorne doesn't lie or violate parent's rights. That only happens at CL Smith.Parent Review1y ago9 Reviews - Check out schools near N MATTIE RD.

"I usually bike out walk to work. Couple busy streets in town but most everything else is quaint, quiet, and charming. Parking can be a headache downtown."

"You have to have a car. There are bike lanes, but it’s still quite a ride to get most places. The buses are slow and unreliable "

"The weekly farmers market and street fair attracts thousands of people. Cerro San Luis Peak hiking trail is two hundred yards away. The Foothill commercial district provides trendy restaurants, coffe shops, gyms and a grocery store. "

"Easy drive with little congestion. Parking downtown requires imagination and persistence. Public transit is slow and very rare on weekends or evenings. Not much demand. "

"Great town and neighborhood feel. Great places to go for walk and hikes. There is also a college nearby, so some neighborhoods have lots of student housing."

"The town is very spread out, and when you need to go across town (work and school) it feels inconvenient and because the transit in slo is centered in the center of the city, it makes it even more difficult to choose public transit. "

"I have lived here for over 5 years. It is surrounded by hills, plenty of hiking trails, close to the beach, great downtown area with excellent food and drink and people are very happy and friendly. There’s so much nature to explore and people are generally pretty respectful of each other. "

"I work within walking distance of my home so my commute is easy. San Luis has pockets of homes and businesses. There is a down town area. I live away from that. Traffic is increasing and can be an issue at the end of the day. There is a bus stop however buses are infrequent. "

"Lots of bums and the area is being infiltrated with people from Fresno and Bakersfield for vacations, and they're not the upper class type. The area, like much of California, is changing. "
