6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe chose this school for our kids because it offered challenge to our college bound kids. They all have graduated from Portage Northern High School. My kids have attended college or about to finish. One has a Master’s Degree in Economics & finishing a Respiratory Therapy Degree. Another has Registered Nursing Degrees and works as a coronary care nurse in a intensive coronary care unit and is about to start her PhD in Nurse Anestheseology. Another completed his MBA at Wayne State and works for Department of Defense. Finally, my youngest is a practicing Corporate Lawyer. All had a good foundation in their beginning years of Education. Portage Northern teachers and the implementation of the curriculum resulted in some very successful assets to our community and country. Thanks Portage Northern High School and GO HUSKIES!Parent Review6y ago5 Reviews - 12th Street Elementary

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been at 12th Street School for 2 years and love it! The teachers are friendly, smart, and communicative. Every student gets a locker. The playground equipment is age appropriate (2 playgrounds, 1 for older kids, 1 for younger kids). Library has great selection of books. Plenty of PTO activities including father-daughter dance, movie nights, and school carnival.Parent Review11y ago7 Reviews - Check out schools near 9th.

"It’s a great place and schools for kids here. Lots of farmers markets and activities to do all over town."

"Good sidewalks for keeping you safe from traffic, streetlights, friendly dogs, respectful of property lines. Quite a few barking dogs though. Lack of barking training in this neighborhood. "

"Lots of dog walkers and a dog park nearby. Everyone is friendly and picks up after their dog. All dogs are leashed and don’t have to worry about a dog running out after you."

"The fireworks during holidays could cause problems for dogs who cant handle them. They would like that there are trails to walk them other than just sidewalks"

"There are not really any community events in our neighborhood. Houses are somewhat far spaced apart. It’s not a subdivision type of neighborhood. "

"Everything in the town of portage is easily navigable which makes a move here much easier. Portage is a great town for families as well; with good schools, lots of nature trail parks used for hiking, lots of different family oriented playground parks, a YMCA with great programs available, etc.... the list goes on! It is a wonderful little midwest town."

"Dumb people shoot fireworks at all hours of the night. There are road construction sites everywhere and seldom construction workers. I like the wildlife though and nice trails. Michigan is just not a nice place to live in the summer. "

"The neighbors are very friendly and many of them take walks in this beautiful neighborhood. Cars are seldom seen, as this is a dead end street. However, the deer will eat your hostas. Consider planting something else. "

"Many people in my neighborhood own dogs. Seems to be a pet friendly area. My neighborhood is really good about keeping their dogs contained within their yard and are usually taken in at night."
