A good neighborhood high school. It’s large in size but it has a fantastic art and theater program. The plays and musicals are far above what you would expect from a high school.

My 12 year old son attends this school. I have not notice a difference in the APLS students and the "boundary" kids (like stated in other comments). My son feels very safe at this school and enjoys the students and teachers. One time there was an incident in a class with my son and I was contacted personally by the teacher not the front office or an assistant. I believe the teachers hold very high standards for the students acheiving the test scores that they do. I dont think the test scores are supported by the ALPS Program. I feel the comments about the APLS Kids being stuck up come a lot from the parents teaching their kids that they are better.

If your child has any special needs do not go here. They will not handle it well and will treat your child like they are a criminal. The principal especially does not know how to handle kids that are having melt downs, and does not give them the space to calm down, and when your child wants one of their parents to come and help calm them down, the principal views it as the child is being manipulative. They view the calm down rooms or corner as a earned privilege's for good behavior which completely defeats the purpose. They do not follow up with agreed processes. Communication between the school and parents is spotty at best. You tend to find out about issues that have happened well after the fact when it is not ideal to address them with your child. If you have a special needs child RUN as fast as you can do not even bother going here it is detrimental to your Childs mental health. It has been so bad we have taken our child back to their previous school across town, where they are treated significantly better.Your child is also banned from playing on the playground before school, they are told that if they do they will get in trouble.
