Unfortunately, my experience with Cedarwood Elementary has been extremely disappointing. From the principal to the front office staff, the overall attitude has felt unwelcoming, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. As a parent, you should feel that your concerns are being heard and taken seriously, but that has not been my experience.The principal’s attitude has been particularly frustrating. Rather than feeling like parents are treated as partners in their child’s education, I have often felt brushed off and as though my concerns were an inconvenience.The office staff have also left a lot to be desired. Communication has been poor, responses to questions and emails have been lacking, and when you do finally get a response, it can feel very short and dismissive. A school office should be one of the most welcoming parts of an elementary school, especially when parents are coming forward with legitimate concerns about their children.Another concern is the impression that there is a tremendous amount of emphasis placed on fundraising and PTC activities. From a parent’s perspective, it can feel like fundraising and bringing money into the school are prioritized over actually listening to and addressing parents’ concerns. Parents should not feel like their value to the school is based on how much they can contribute financially.I expected much better from an elementary school. Children spend a significant portion of their day here, and parents deserve to feel respected, listened to, and welcomed when communicating with the school.Overall, this has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience. Cedarwood Elementary has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to communication, professionalism, parent relations, and creating a welcoming environment for families.
