The PTA does so much as well to connect the parents to the school through fun family events throughout the year. It is a thriving school.Parent Review1y ago21 Reviews - James Clemens High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall, James Clemens is a decent school. We get an hour of lunch to eat, study, or socialize. However, this hour is when staff supervision is at its lowest. It's the reason why so many fights break out every day. It's just a normal occurrence. The amount of fights and lack of supervision makes me concerned for my safety here. As for Academics...it's a hit or miss. Almost all the AP teachers are super passionate about teaching. Many of the non-AP teachers are coaches who spend more time coaching their sport than actually teaching. Sports here are prioritized wayy too much compared to the other things they offer. I understand that the South heavily favors sports, but this school takes it to another level. Pretty much every assembly/event is sports related. Favoritism towards student-athletes is blatant, while the students in the Arts are hardly recognized at all for their achievements. The Arts are basically ignored by the admin and they will often turn a blind eye to athletes discriminating and using slurs. There have been news stories of one sports team using homophobic slurs and only getting a slap on the wrist. Many similar incidents at the school are swept under the rug in order to maintain its reputation as a top school. In reality, they care more about test scores and their reputation than the mental well-being of the students. The district put up these QR codes for mental health resources, but they were on every visible spot on the walls, indicating to me that they only wanted to look like they cared, when in reality, they don't. Most of counselors aren't open to communication and you can't easily talk to one when you need them. I would say this school is decent, but I don't think they prepared me for college.Student Review3y ago8 Reviews - Journey Middle School

"My commute to downtown is 15-20 minutes or less from the east side of Madison in non-rush hour traffic. During rush or peak travel times, my commute is 20-30 minutes to downtown."

"Everyone is very kind and seems to take a sense of pride in keeping their homes presentable. It is a safe neighborhood and you’ll frequently see families out on a walk. Never have had any issues with unruly neighbors or anything if the sort. Comfortable with leaving my dogs in the yard for a little while too which I was not in our previous neighborhood."

"Traffic is difficult when school takes in and dismisses. dismissal is staggered between elementary, middle and high schools so there is a steady stream of traffic in the morning- school + work and afternoon school then work. it can be sticky in spots because of this. "

"The neighborhood provides convenient access to I-20, but traffic coming home can sometimes turn a 13 minute drive into 40. And public transit is non-existent."

"No publc transportation. Traffic is heaviest when school starts and ends and about 4:30-5:00. it can take about 10-15 minutes to make the 4 mile drive depending on what time I leave (doorstep to doorstep) Sunday mornings are also heavy on traffic due to the number of churches in the area. "

"It is common for people that live in our neighborhood to walk their dogs. It is expected though that you clean up after your dog and not allow it to bark frequently. Neighbors are usually friendly to dogs that are seen walking and stop to chat with the owners. "
