About this House
(I don't know where Zillow got 1001 sq. ft. It never has been that small!!)
With a disdain for the way most houses were being thrown together and all the houses in an area looking alot alike, my wife and I decided we wanted something different. We started with a design that provided an open feeling without having to to be gigantic in size. The front room is open to the loft upstairs and with the large windows there is plenty of natural daylight and open space to avoid that closed in feeling. We personally used the front room as a dining room so we had room to seat family when they came for dinner. In order to feed that family we have an open kitchen with lots of counter space and a breakfast bar to gather around or eat at without crowding the cook.
We used the sunroom as our living room and spend most of our time at home right there. It doesn't get more relaxing than that.
The laundry room is in the basement, which is otherwise unfinished. We had hoped to make it a recreation room/family room but circumstances in life have not brought us to a place that would allow us to do that just yet.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are not huge but they are not cracker boxes either. We were looking for practical when we built this place and large and flashy (and expensive to heat and cool!!) was not what we had in mind.
The walls are 2x6 construction for extra insulation and strength and the roof is 2x12 rafters. The exterior of the house has 100 wood sheathing and has been house wrapped.
Neighborhood Description
The neighborhood is mostly tall established trees on a private road with 5 and 10 acre lots. One neighbor has horse stables and a couple of riding/grazing areas. Neighbors are several hundred feet apart and separated by plenty of trees. One older established development borders the back of the neighborhood so there is no room for any more development or building immediately surrounding the property. There are no neighborhood associations, pools, clubhouses, or anything of that sort.
