We have only been here a few years and we are leaving. Finneytown seemed perfect for our family. Suburban school with diversity. What it lacks is having a handle on its students and there isn’t any true discipline. My child was assaulted 4 times in one month, did everything he was supposed to do in reporting and they couldn’t keep him safe. We went as high up as the Superintendent Mrs. Banks, and after assurances, nothing was done. Promise after promise of aid from multiple teachers, counselors, staff members and then the highest in the school and he still gets threats. My sons whole personality has changed. He fears going to school. He has broke down. He gave up basketball. His grades are slipping from a near 4.0 to a 3.0. We aren’t keeping him here another year. We’re done. My advice is to really look at your school leadership. Huge problems there. My kidsdeserve better than false promises, black eyes, bruised backs, threats of harm and teachers and staff who shrug, passing it off to the next people who never help either.

My daughter started her Kindergarten year so excited! I am so sad to write this review a year later. The experience my daughter had at Finneytown Elementary was absolutely horrible. I will preface my review with this, if you want your child to be bullied, send your child here. Otherwise do yourself the biggest favor and avoid this school like the plague. My daughter in her year there was stabbed in the hand with a pencil, pushed into the fence on the playground, pinched, pushed. That doesn’t even include the emotional aspect of what she went through. The school did NOTHING. I understand my child could have done something to trigger this, but every time I tried to get to the bottom of it and what happened, no answers were ever given. I called the assistant principal and voiced my concerns. Nothing changed and it continued. I had an appointment to discuss it in person, didn’t help. What happened at the end of the meeting was me being told “after seeing you it makes sense”. Her referring to the fact that I was 6 months pregnant. Essentially saying that I reacted and tried to get resolution PERSISTENTLY because I was pregnant. Not okay. As a parent I figured, I’d like to have a conversation with other parents if my child was bullying so I could discuss the issues and get it resolved. That wasn’t allowed, which I understand there’s privacy laws, etc. but if you don’t allow the parents to discuss then the school REALLY needs to step up their system in how they handle bullying. We ended up moving our family to a better school district JUST TO AVOID THE SCHOOL. It is THAT bad. Please avoid this school at all costs, I promise you, it’s not worth your child’s physical and emotional safety. Go literally anywhere else. My daughter since switching schools has LOVED going to school at her new school. She hasn’t been bullied even once, and she is thriving. I wish there were reviews like this prior to sending my daughter here. It could’ve saved us and her so much heart ache.
