I moved to Manasquan when my children were rising 9th and 5th graders. Our initial experience was fantastic. Counselors helped my high-schooler access appropriate support and services for his learning disability and my elementary school-aged child made friends easily, and was more challenged than he had been in the Title 1 school district we were moving from. After living here for nearly 7 years, I would not recommend this school to any new families, especially families with students of color. The administration does not hold equity as a priority. I have not ever seen or heard of students being allowed to use racial slurs the way they do here. If your child doesn't fit the Manasquan mold, there are few teachers who will help support them. Many of the students are highly privileged with very little awareness of or concern for others who may have less and come from different backgrounds than they do. Of course, this is not their fault--their behavior is role-modeled by the staff and administration who are mostly from the area and carry the same prejudices. Both of my children suffered increased anxiety and depression during their years in attendance at MHS. Their instructional model is antiquated (invested heavily in technology devices, but do not have a dime to spare for any kind of adaptive, digital curriculum) and so is their mindset.

As a school administrator in another district, I have a unique perspective on sending your child to be educated by other teachers. Both of my daughters attend Manasquan Elementary--as does my nephew--and I gave been consistently impressed with the administration, the responsiveness of the staff, and the kindness of the teachers. So far, so good!
