This administrator relies heavily on trauma bonding to maintain loyalty and compliance. The leadership style follows a predictable cycle of mistreatment followed by intermittent praise or rewards, which creates confusion, dependency, and a false sense of belonging. Staff are made to feel part of an exclusive inner circle, where “loyalty” is framed as a measure of moral character rather than professionalism. Questioning decisions is subtly (and sometimes explicitly) treated as betrayal.As a result, teachers experience chronic stress, anxiety about speaking up, and genuine fear of leaving. It takes such a toll on teacher's mental and physical heath. The nervous system is constantly activated as people are not operating from a place of trust or psychological safety, but from self-protection. Many excellent teachers remain silent, not because things are going well, but because they have witnessed cruel retaliation toward colleagues who offered honest feedback or advocated for students.A clear example of this dysfunction occurred when staff were informed the Friday before students returned (with only two days’ notice) that we would be required to implement standards-based grading. There were no guidelines, no training, and no support. Teachers were simply told to comply. We were expected to assess each standard three times, despite the obvious workload implications and lack of clarity around implementation. Concerns about feasibility or instructional integrity were dismissed rather than addressed. We were told “we are building the plane as we fly it,” a phrase that suggests improvisation where careful planning and accountability (I mean, we're overhauling an entire grading system and structure!) should be non-negotiable.Because of the fear-based culture and widespread trauma bonding, feedback to administration is not honest. People say what they need to say to avoid becoming targets. This creates an echo chamber where harmful decisions go unchallenged and leadership remains insulated from the real impact of their actions.This is not strong leadership. It is control through fear, emotional manipulation, and silence, and it takes a real toll on teachers’ mental health, professional autonomy, and ultimately, students. Future students and potential teachers, be very wary! Please speak to ANYONE who has left in the last five years before applying. The district office needs to start talking to teachers AWAY from admin.

We have been a part of the Clover School District since our children were in middle school. My particular problem is with the high school. The guidance counselors have forgotten to share opportunities with students and provide no real guidance unless the student is their child (witnessed firsthand) or is a high-profile student (i.e. athlete; Student Council; a teacher/staff member's child). Most of the female teachers behave like they're still in high school and gossip with and play favorites with the athletes and "popular" kids. I have witnessed and heard about the actions of some of the more recently hired teachers and it has made me wonder if the school district even really verifies the credentials of these teachers? When a student is questioning if their own teacher is passing off AI-generated work as her own, there's a problem!I was led to believe that we moved to one of the best school districts in South Carolina, but several of my experiences over the years have led me to believe otherwise.
