This is a great school! It has committed teachers who spend extra time working with their students to help them succeed. Sidney Schools has so many services. It offers inclusion specialists, ESL teachers, talented & gifted teachers, resource room teachers, and MD units. Classrooms at SMS are state of the art and the building is well laid out with each grade level in its own wing. Sidney Middle School's music program is top notch with orchestra, band, and choir offered. Almost all of these students continue at the high school level. The cultural diversity in Sidney City Schools prepares its students for success in working with others from different backgrounds in college and in the job force. Sidney Middle School is constantly working to improve test scores and also to meet the individual needs of all of its students. Sidney graduates come back frequently to see their middle school teachers and thank them for helping them succeed in college and in the real world. SMS encourages all students to be involved in extra-curricular activities or sports and become a part of their school community. This is a great school in a great school system! Sidney is lucky to have SMS.

Rude,entitled, over controlling teachers. No one cares about bullying although they say they do. Too much homework for the grade without the child understanding the work.

This school is probably one of the worst schools in the Northern Dayton area. For one, a good chunk of teachers are straight out of college and usually leave after 3 years; to get a better job at a better school. This leads to hit and miss teachers, on how effective they are. While I was there, there were literally 5 principles over a term of 4 years. Also, they don’t prep students to get accepted into college as they only have 4 AP classes, as they opted to go mostly with college credit plus classes. Bullying is literally a joke to them until something bad happens. Plus, the community doesn’t support the school district at all, they haven’t voted for a tax increase for over a decade, and the people who can have their kids attend other schools outside the district do instead. The school is essentially a feeder for the local factories, the school even has a program for it and they call it work force.
