I dont really know why so many people are saying West is such a great place. Its good for a "high school" and academics but if your child is social at all, they will have a hard time adjusting here. Most of the students are involved with illicit things, and i can say this with much first hand experience, alot of girls here are generally morally loose(if you get what im saying) and extremely judgmental of others. Its tough to actually make friends because of the intolerance and overall ignorance of personal diversity and freedoms but if your a "Redneck" or extremely outgoing/bubbly person you shouldn't have too much of a hard time fitting in here. Diversity as stated before is very unwelcome, and most of the schools values are highly Conservative. The principal tries his best but at times he ends up not making the best decision as a whole. In the end though, this is a average High School with average things happening you would expect teens to be into. The schooling is good, and the staff is actually very interested in your own situation if its worth their time and oppurtunity is everywhere. The only downside is the student body. The students are what bring this school down overall.

Although our overall experience at MCES was good while our daughter attended, our view has changed once we moved out of the district (but stayed within the same state).Our daughter was (from the feedback and grades given) thriving & one of the top in her 1st grade class at MCES. We have since moved out of the district (job transfer) and she started a new school for the 2nd grade, but in the same state. We knew she may be a little behind because the new school is highly rated but we were not prepared for what happened....After she was tested in Math and Reading (mainly due to Millers Creek "misplacing" her records), our daughter tested WELL below where she should be. Her 2nd grade teacher was very concerned about our daughter's learning and the testing methods at MCES. There was even talk of our daughter repeating the 1st grade. We found that when our daughter was tested at MCES, once she hit her mark one time, she was moved on to the next level. Consistency was never used and teachers were eager to move kids onto the next level. I say "teachers" because other 1st grade teachers have to do the testing, especially for reading (as is the practice mandated by the state). The same holds true at the new school for 2nd grade. We are finding in the new school that children need to reach a level of consistency before moving on to the next level. If both schools are using the same state mandated testing methods, following the same state mandated testing procedures our daughter should NOT have been this far behind when moving to a new public school within the same state. Something is seriously wrong with MCES's testing procedures and the eagernesses to push a child to the next level shows in their EOG and state testing results (thus overall low grades for the school). If we never moved to a different school district, we would have never known our child needed much more help and that is scary!
