Overall, the school is relatively well. Students such as myself and others have been able to learn an adequate amount of material throughout the year. However, when it comes to non-academic related incidents, parts of the staff doesn't fare well. Many teachers and staff members require social contracts to be put into place, which respects the boundaries of the teachers, students, and the classroom. Some people require certain aspects to reduce stress, or anxiety, but some of the staff members fail to respect those, and when a slight infraction takes place, they are immediately there to pounce on the opportunity to punish the student. I don't understand why the teachers can disrespect student's boundaries, but the slightest. boundary that a student breaks, they are punished for it. Further, the school states that they value student's education, safety, and wellbeing within the school. But the problem is, that when a problem comes to rise, such as racism, they fail to act on it. Whenever something is reported, the upper staff will tell you "we will take care of it" but then nothing is being done. The problems continue. The school is mainly focused on security, the drug problem, and making sure phones are put away during class. However, none of these goals are found successful!!! Great Bend High School says they will act on problems, then fail to do so, harming the student body not just physically, but mentally.
