Roosevelt has many strengths, including a beautiful campus in a prime location on Montana Avenue and a strong academic reputation. The teachers are dedicated, caring, and truly one of the school’s greatest assets. Academically, Roosevelt continues to perform well compared with other schools across the state.However, our experience has raised significant concerns about the overall student culture and school climate. Bullying and relational aggression have become persistent issues. Students are frequently excluded, subjected to name-calling, and exposed to other forms of social bullying. We have also observed inappropriate language and aggressive behavior among some students on the playground. There appears to be limited adult supervision during recess and other unstructured times, when many of these interactions occur.The administration is aware of these challenges, but we have not seen meaningful or sustained efforts to address them. Increased supervision, clearer expectations for student behavior, and a more proactive approach to fostering kindness, respect, and inclusion would greatly improve the school environment.While Roosevelt provides a strong academic foundation and benefits from excellent teachers, we believe greater attention and investment are needed to strengthen the student culture and ensure that the school environment reflects the values of respect, empathy, and inclusion.
