As a parent, I find myself deeply troubled by the environment at Greely Middle School, a place that should be nurturing young minds but instead has developed into what feels like a toxic community. A school is supposed to be where children feel safe, respected, and encouraged, yet too often the stories my child brings home tell of teachers who seem indifferent, dismissive, or even harsh toward students. Education is not just about textbooks and grades—it is about building confidence, curiosity, and self-worth. Unfortunately, Greely Middle seems to miss this mark, leaving too many children feeling undervalued and unheard.One of the most common complaints my child shares is the lack of respect from teachers. Instead of listening when students voice concerns, many teachers shut them down, often with sarcasm or impatience. This kind of behavior sets a tone where students feel their voices do not matter. Some teachers appear more focused on control and discipline than on fostering an environment of collaboration and understanding. The message it sends is that compliance is more important than learning, and that mistakes are met with embarrassment rather than guidance.The toxic culture extends beyond just classroom interactions. A healthy school community requires trust and empathy, but too often the students feel as though they are treated like problems rather than people. When a child struggles academically or socially, they are labeled, criticized, or brushed aside instead of being supported. This creates an atmosphere of fear rather than growth, and students quickly learn to hide their struggles rather than seek help. What is most concerning is that this negativity does not stay in the classroom—it follows them home, leaving lasting impacts on their mental health and self-esteem.Parents send their children to school with the hope that they will not only gain knowledge but also learn how to become confident, compassionate individuals. At Greely Middle, however, too many children are leaving with the opposite—anxiety, resentment, and a sense of being undervalued. Teachers hold an enormous responsibility, and when they fail to treat students with basic kindness and respect, the entire school culture suffers. What could be a thriving, supportive community has instead become toxic, eroding both the quality of education and the spirit of the students.

My son is going into Greely High School this coming year. He was in advanced math so he can start math a year ahead as well as skipping the first year of Spanish. He has been excited for challenging classes so far and is excited for the future. The school has offered nothing but positive influences for our family. Thank you Greely!

We have had 4 children go through this school. I cannot say enough about how excellent the teachers are at this school. All of our teachers have gone above and beyond for our kids. I have a couple of them that have struggled and I am always updated with their progress and encouraged along the way. I also have one that has been on grade level or above and that student was challenged. They truly care about their students and their well being.Through this pandemic the staff, teachers and everyone have been so supportive. It is a great feeling to send my kids each day to school and know they are cared about and that the teachers have high hopes for their futures.Thank you!!!

My daughter is happy, well adjusted and challenged by the education she is receiving at NYMS. She has an opportunity to try new things in a caring and structured environment. The teachers seem to be well educated and excited to teach as well.
