Not the most welcoming front office, nor the most understanding that I am my child’s number one advocate. They know best. This school also does not fully celebrate Veterans Day (weird half day of school), and are ridiculously unwavering with regard to attendance policies. The teachers are fantastic for the most part, and make every effort to keep every child involved, included and learning to the best of their ability.

If your child has an IEP or any learning differences, I strongly urge you to consider a different school.My son has ADHD and documented challenges with memory and focus, which were acknowledged by the school psychologist. Despite this, the school consistently failed to provide him the support outlined in his IEP. He failed his IEP classes every semester, yet instead of evaluating how they might better support him, the school continuously blamed my son—and us as parents—for the academic struggles. At no point did they take accountability for the repeated failure to provide appropriate interventions or accommodations.To make matters worse, the administration has now barred him from participating in his 8th grade ceremony—even though he is still advancing to 9th grade. This decision feels punitive and demoralizing, especially for a 14-year-old boy who needed support, not judgment.The school seems more concerned with appearances than actually helping students succeed. The principal’s attitude has been dismissive and, frankly, snobbish. There is a serious lack of understanding—and compassion—for students who don’t fit the “ideal” mold.Our experience has been nothing short of heartbreaking and frustrating. I sincerely hope other families don’t have to go through what we did.

Unfortunately, the people who write reviews are often the disgruntled ones. . . . I am here to plug WHS. My daughter attended Waccamaw High for seven years as a Special Ed student. I have nothing but high regards for the school: the atmosphere is friendly, the teachers and students are caring, and the academic work is challenging from what I have observed from other students. For example, Furman University (a top tier university) accepts several students from WHS every year. Don't believe the negative comments. Cheers!
