Canoga Park High School is very adamant about students doing the best they can and getting into college; assemblies are made to see where students are academically and to remind them about where they are supposed to be. They offer good magnets, academic resources, and extra summer learning apart from the usual summer credit make-up such as ninth-grade summer geometry classes. While CPHS has good initiative in academics they do a poorer job in almost every other aspect. Many of the non-magnet counselors (only ever encountered non-magnet) never answer their emails or are never in their offices, the campus is dirty with trash and writings on the bathroom stalls, and they lack a sense of urgency with student complaints (about other students/teachers/campus. There is very little accessibility for those who require a wheelchair apart from the one(maybe two) elevator/s on campus. Students are rowdy, ill-mannered, and have very little desire to learn; many classes get interrupted by a student who complains or tries to be funny in a disrespectful manner. Recently, mirrors have been removed from bathroom stalls in an alleged attempt to keep students in classes in the morning/during class time but to no avail students still linger in the bathroom and around campus.

I Love this school. My children Love this school. My son started at Capistrano Ave Elementary when he was in 2nd grade. My daughter started at Capistrano Ave Elementary in Pre-K. The kids love the school so much they do everything they can to not miss a day of school and have had perfect attendance every year. Our entire family has felt Extremely welcomed at the school. We have been able to volunteer on campus, read to kids in their classrooms, help with extra curricular activities, and help supervise during recess, which is such a pleasure to see my kids thriving at school. Capistrano has given our kids the opportunity to experience new things on field trips (e.g. Theater at Pantages, Santa Barbara Zoo, The Opera, Disney's California Adventure storytellers program, Pacific Aquarium, and more). Additionally our kids have had been given the chance to participate in amazing things outside of the classroom (e.g. Ballroom Dance, Saturday Art enrichment, Saturday Reading enrichment, Robotics, Making Movies That Matter program, and more).We have loved every teacher that our kids have had and even the teachers that we have met through school activities that our kids didn't have as teachers.The office Staff goes above and beyond to make this a wonderful and safe place for every single student that is enrolled here.The Principal clearly cares for every single student and amazes us everyday with her heart and compassion for these kids. I recommend Capistrano Ave Elementary School to any and all students from Pre-K to 5th grade.

The administration of this school has no idea or no motivation to discipline students. The same disrespectful students misbehave over and over without any consequences. The teachers do not have administrative support and it’s a free-for-all every single day. There are nonexistent academic expectations and no behavioral standards enforced. Find another option…do not choose this school!
