Behind the friendly hellos are unspoken contests, quiet cruelty, and the subtle slicing of exclusion dressed up as excellence. Mothers wear brittle smiles like armor, trading warmth for rank. Conversations aren’t conversations; they’re auditions. And every hallway becomes a runway for who can perform the most perfect version of parenthood.But the real heartbreak? It’s the kids watching from the wings, learning that love must be earned with overachievement, that friendship is a ladder not a circle, and that their worth is measured by metrics—not their joy, their spirit, or their spark.The culture here rewards the wrong things. It whispers that rest is laziness, simplicity is failure, and authenticity is weakness. And in the name of “Gifted,” it produces a hierarchy so tightly wound it suffocates those unwilling to perform.Let’s be honest about where this toxicity stems from:The administration sets the tone—praising compliance over compassion and policies over people.The PTA is a pageant of power moms cloaked in performative volunteerism, rewarding those who play the game while silently freezing out those who don’t.The teachers, overworked and under-supported, sometimes fall into the trap of favoritism, unintentionally upholding a system that treats children like little résumés.And the parents? Many are trapped themselves—desperate to protect their kids in a system that only values the shiny surface. They become gatekeepers instead of neighbors.And let’s not pretend a silent auction is just fundraising. It’s a spectacle of privilege, a thinly veiled contest of who can give more, show more, be more. It's less about supporting education than about advertising who belongs at the top.But here’s the truth I carry with me now:I walked through it and didn’t become it. I smiled without scheming. I showed up without status. I let my child be a child. And I chose truth over appearance, even when it cost me connection.That choice made me an outsider in their world—but whole in mine.To those still inside: may you wake up and remember what connection really is. To those who feel lost in it: you’re not broken, you’re just sensitive to falseness. And to those of us who are leaving: we’re not escaping—we’re ascending!

I'm writing this as a junior in high school, so things might've changed since I left, but there are many things wrong and many things fine, from what I can remember. The administration isn't really great at connecting with students or parents, and they don't seem to pay attention to the teachers' concerns when brought up. Their hiring process for some of the newer teachers is also quite questionable, and a lot of them quit after their first or even halfway through their first year at NAMS. They also don't know how to handle fights or violence at all, and can be VERY incompetent when handling threats or bullying. Nonetheless, my experience was generally positive, you're sort of forced to try and experience new things in middle school, and as long as you have a decent conscience and know right from wrong, it can be a really enjoyable time there. Would I recommend this school to other people? Not really, but if there's no other choice, North Arvada isn't a terrible last option, for sure.

I get bullied every day in every class, and I have a target on my back. I don't feel safe here, you can't go to the bathroom without getting high
