My youngest is autistic, and from day one, the staff has gone above and beyond to support him and make him feel safe, secure and comfortable! He can become overwhelmed, overstimulated, or anxious when things become too much for him, and his teachers have taken the time to learn his personality, recognize his needs, and they understand what helps him regulate. There was a time when I worried constantly when he was at school, but I no longer feel that way because they know him so well that They recognize when he needs support and I know they will contact me if they are concerned.He has an intervention specialist who helps with testing, studying, and areas where he needs additional support. And The school has even added a sensory room he can use anytime he needs to. He absolutely LOVES it and I love that they care so much that they were willing to invest and create something so special!!! One experience that really showed me the level of understanding and love here was during a storm when he became overwhelmed, anxious and scared Instead of treating him like a disruption, his teacher gave him her noise canceling headphones, got a beanbag and let him sit beside her and play a game/watch a video, she created a comfortable space where he could relax. She understood that he didn’t need punishment or pressure. He needed someone who understood him. She sent me a photo of him that day becauseshe knew I was worrying but I’ve not worried once since that day! Something so simple to most meant so much to me!It truly means everything to me is that Lydia doesn’t just accommodate my son. They include him. They see his strengths, celebrate his progress, and help him succeed without making him feel like he is differentLydia is not simply a place where my children have gone to school. It has been a place where they have been encouraged, supported, protected, challenged, and cared for I would recommend this school over and over again to any family, whether their child has special needs or not. These teachers and staff don’t simply educate children. They take the time to know them, understand them, support them, and help them thrive. Lydia Middleton truly has some of the best of the best, and it shows in every child that walks through their doors!
