I have had multiple children attend Red Lodge, and all of them have had wonderful and unique experiences here. One of my children thrived in the strong athletics program, another enjoyed the variety of CTE classes, mainly welding and Auto Shop, and they all have been able to challenge themselves with advanced coursework, including AP classes. Most of the teachers are highly qualified and deeply knowledgeable in their fields. From what I have seen, the few newer teachers receive excellent support from experienced staff, which helps maintain a high standard of education. While students naturally form different social groups, the small-school atmosphere ensures that most get along well, and serious issues are rare.Some older reviews were critical of the former principal, but since that principal’s retirement, the new leadership seems to have completely changed the atmosphere. The current principal is genuinely invested in making Red Lodge High School a positive, challenging, and supportive learning environment and that is evident by the changes he has implemented.The school also offers a strong special education program. The special education teacher and especially the paraprofessionals go above and beyond to support all students, not just those in the program. They keep a close eye on grades and missing assignments and work with students to get them back on track before issues escalate. This is especially helpful for students who participate in many sports and miss school days. They get assistance catching up before there is even a problem. The only drawback I’ve observed is the degree of student apathy, which seems to have become more common since Covid. While the school provides every opportunity for success, not all students take advantage of them. In my opinion, this is more of a broader parenting and societal challenge than a reflection on the school itself.Overall, Red Lodge has given my children excellent opportunities to learn, grow, and pursue their interests, and I feel confident recommending it to other families.
