About this House

Built in 1903 for lawyer, Frank S. Livingood, this mansion was designed by local architect Charles H. Muhlenberg Sr. The Jacobethan style raws elements from the late 16th Century England, including segmented facade4s, steep-sided triangular gables, classical entrances and tall brick chimneys. in 1917, the property was purchased by Helen Quier, daughter of Jesse Hawley, founder of the Reading Eagle. Since 1960, the building has been the headquarters of the Reading/Berks Chapter of the American Red Cross. The main home has 3 floors with a grand staircase in the middle. Each floor has many office spaces and half bath rooms. In 1980 they built the Health Services Building. It has about 1600 Sq. Ft. on the first floor and 1600 SQ. Ft. in the basement that is all finished off and there are stairs to the basement along with an elevator. This building has gas heat and Central air. There are also sprinklers in this building along with fire alarms. Also on the property there is a 4 car garage that also has extra storage up on the second floor. Besides the garage there is also 24 parking spaces in the off street parking lot. This property is being sold AS IS.

    "There are a lot of people that walk their dogs in this area and most people are animal friendly, but you do have some people that put up signs to keep off lawn. The reason I believe this happens is because you do have some people, very few, that will walk their dogs at night and not clean up. As a dog owner, I always clean up after my dog and I get very annoyed when I am walking and I see that someone didn’t clean up after their dog. "

    "Absolutely nothing. I moved here because I lived among the elderly and they began moving and selling their homes after Covid. Now the neighbors are loud with music playing constantly. Outside smoking weed and using profanity all the time. Gets worse during the summer time. I cannot let my kids outside to ply because there is no respect for them as children."
