I am writing this review to provide insight for parents on the student’s perspective of attending this school, pertaining specifically to the high school campus. I was a graduate this school year and all I can say was these past two years have been absolutely miserable for everyone. The rapidly declining participation and lack of spirit from the student body should be the first red flag for most, but if that isn’t enough, I was forced to watch the deteriorating mental state of my younger sister who was only a freshman this year. She is like a typical teenager, but more of a free spirit. A large majority of the faculty, including the high school principal, targeted her. From her algebra teacher telling her all year she was not bright enough for the honors Algebra I course, to the principal calling her out of class every day and contacting our parents for silly teenager things such as wearing a fake piercing or popping a water bottle, it seems like any move she made was wrong. (Meanwhile, I watched a student in the senior class blatantly disrespect a teacher, telling her to “mind your own business” and “why would I respect someone like you.” Nothing happened to that student and she still attended senior trip). My Sister sat out at all of her softball games, never given the opportunity to play or improve while the same girls got to play every time. Granted, she did miss some practices due to track practice, so when she asked her softball coach what she could do about it, her coach told her to come to more practices for softball. When my sister missed track practice for softball practice to try and get more playing time, she was asked why she was even there. These people do not care about any of the students besides the chosen few children of past alumni. My sister is so talented and intelligent, and now because of all the discouragement and the negative environment of this campus, she does not want to participate in anything simply to avoid giving the school the pleasure of her talent. Milano has become a dangerously toxic school to attend, so I encourage parents to think twice before enrolling their child.
