I can only speak through my experience. Both of my sons have attended this school since K. My older one is in his 5th year and is ESE/Gifted, meaning he has an IEP and accomodations. In other words, he has a learning disability. I have to say that the school has done everything they can to accomodate my son. They have done a great job communicating with me throughout the years, and all of his teachers have been wonderful. Not only do his teachers care, but all of the teachers and faculty know him and care about him and lookout for his safety, which is extremely important to me. They have many extra curricular activities, such as Debate, Chorus, Drum club, STEM, etc. My other son loves DE as well and I highly recommend this school.

One of the most frequent complaints involves student safety and the prevalence of physical altercations. Recent reviews from students and parents mention instances where multiple fights occurred in a single day, sometimes over trivial matters like school lunch items. Parents have expressed frustration that the school's response to these incidents can feel inadequate, with some reporting that students who defend themselves against bullies end up facing long-term suspensions while the initial aggressors appear to face fewer consequences. The administration has faced significant criticism regarding communication and professionalism. Parents and students have described some administrators and guidance counselors as "moody" or "rude," noting a lack of responsiveness to voicemails and emails. There are also reports of a disconnect between the staff and parents; one parent noted that when raising a complaint, the school attempted to shift blame onto the family rather than addressing the core issue. Furthermore, there have been claims of "incompetence" regarding the handling of student records and behavioral referrals. Several specific school rules have drawn the ire of the student body. A particularly unpopular policy involves "bathroom escorts," where security personnel are required to walk students to the restroom, leading to long wait times and frustration. Additionally, the school maintains a strict no-electronics policy, which led to a highly publicized instance of a student being suspended for being on their phone to communicate with family during a personal tragedy. Other strict measures, such as giving detention for accidentally losing a school badge, have been described by some as "cruel" and lacking mercy. Beyond behavioral issues, the physical environment and basic services at the school are frequently cited as "bad." Reviews often mention that the bathrooms are consistently dirty and emit unpleasant odors. The quality of the school lunch is a common point of contention, with students describing the food as "disgusting" or "sucking." Additionally, despite its status as a magnet school, some alumni have noted that certain programs, like middle school sports, have historically suffered from a lack of funding, resulting in the use of aging equipment and jerseys.

The students here are quite sociable and friendly, some teachers are good and they will try to help you but the vast majority of teachers don't help you, they don't care if you don't speak English, and some teachers no matter how much you deliver activities they will give you an F simply because they don't like you, the days that are from their meetings that as in all schools you leave at 12 in Hollywood hills they took it away from us, the days they gave us to rest they took it away only the days of recess or the commemorative days, those of security and teachers most of the time they don't let you go to the bathroom so we are not doing anything, they don't let us express ourselves in the sense that if we have any doubts they simply yell at us in a bad way or start talking ugly and discriminate against us just for being Latinos, many more things, so if you plan to enter the Hollywood Hills high school
