A History of Olympic Tower and Apartment 46/47C

Olympic Tower has a history worthy of a book; a biography or a pop culture/fashion lesson of a bygone era. Perhaps this book could have been published by Joni Evans, the publishing executive in charge of Simon and Schuster and Random House who lived in the building for several years. Olympic Tower was built in 1976 by developer Aristotle Onassis and partners, and designed by architectural company, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Not only was it one of the first condominiums in New York City, but it was the first all glass tower in the city. The Onassis family was only one of many prestigious families to live in this glamorous building, which also included the Gucci, Ferogamo, and Camerino families. Known as the Studio 54 of apartment buildings, it is not hard to believe that Liz Taylor would sneak into the building through the back entrance, to avoid the paparazzi that would always be outside, to enjoy the many glamorous parties hosted by Halston in his showroom which included a runway. Many of those parties were frequented by A-Listers such as Liza Minnelli, Carol Channing, Eartha Kitt, Truman Capote, Bianca Jagger and Martin Scorsese. Scorsese even brought some of his new up and comers at the time, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. 46/47C has been owned by the Onassis family, and Adnan Khashoggi. Most recently, the notorious Rafaello Follieri and super star Anne Hathaway leased this apartment during their storybook romance.

Available for short term and long term lease.

"The commute is easy, a lot of public transportation and main avenues to travel down. The neighborhood needs work though "

  • Trulia User
"Nice neighborhood friendly people sense of community but dangerous sometimes. Drunk people. Packages are often stolen"
  • Trulia User
"It’s a very dog friendly place! So many great pups in the area, a dog training school, a dog park, pet stores, and lots of walkers."
  • Trulia User
"Greenwood is so beautiful. The only thing I hate abt here is that it’s so expensive and it’s so hard to find a place to park ur car. But if you have the money and patience to own a car and find a parking space this is the right place for you. There’s rlly good nearby schools I attended ps295 and new voices which is in the same building and I absolutely loved my time there"
  • Trulia User
"There is a nice playground. Many elementary and middle schools. That’s all. No ice cream places or toy stores in the area . It’s dirty everywhere. Some People are nice , but there are loud music and noisy in the night sometimes. "
  • Trulia User
"Green word is such a beautiful place to live. It’s not noisy might be cause of holidays but that’s it. Safe at all hours and days. Close to transportation. I live near 5th ave and always take the R or B63. But it is a hard time to find a place to park your car and it is expensive but if you have the money and have patience with finding parking then this is the right place for you. And it’s close to schools if you have kids "
  • NJ

  • Daniel C.
"Good place for a start. I think will be more developed though. Days are pretty safe, but night time it can be a bit sketch."
  • Lilia S.
"We have neighborhood fairs once in a while, and Halloween parade. We also have movie nights in one of the community gardens and Prospect Park."
  • Britt.rogers
"Ive lived here for 3 years exactly. Everyone is friendly and courteous. It’s great for families and there is a fantastic sense of community."
  • Pam B.
"Great small neighborhood dog run and a short-ish 15 minute walk fto the Prospect Park 15th Street entrance. Great area for dog lovers."
  • Kata15442
"It petty cool, many restaurants and bars around , also you are close to the water which is really convenient in summer "
  • Christie A.
"You cannot take your dog into Greenwood cemetery so I’m commenting on the person who said people don’t pick up after their dogs in the cemetery. In general, many people do not pick up after their dogs past 6th Avenue down to 4th between 15th street and 23rd. It’s a problem. We have dogs and continually pick up after people when our dogs go in an effort to keep our streets clean. "
  • m
"There are a lot of new families and a lot of condos being put up. I grew up here and do not like the condos. It has a lot of restaurants and bars and everything is walking distance "
  • Qies M.
"It’s just so quiet and peaceful except when this bar came then they just make it hard to sleep but you learn to live with it unfortunately "
  • Buddy346
"They take their mutts to green-cemetery for their business and do not feel the need to pick up after them "
  • Buddy346
