Before I transferred our son to Mayo Elementary, I talked to different community members about the school: retired teachers, librarians, family, and longtime area residents. The picture that emerged was what every parent looks for in a small school: a school that is better than the demographics suggest it should be, teachers and staff who love their jobs and their kids, and low turn over because of that. Our son is smart, headstrong, outspoken, and fidgety... All of which make him a challenge in a classroom setting. He will be entering his fourth year at Mayo Elementary this fall, and our experience there has exceeded our expectations. The principals, teachers, staff, and district consultants have communicated and worked with us to help focus our son's behavior and keep him challenged academically without breaking his spirit or wearing him down.

"My neighborhood is full of a bunch of walkers that will steal anything you have outside. There are random wild dogs that roam around at night. Just not anywhere you really want to live."

"The only means of transportation is by vehicle only. I have used uber to the airport. There are no shuttles to any of the airports or to any malls. "

"I have lived in this neighborhood for four years, and the people are friendly, and most everyone knows each other in some way, everyone is treated like family. Children play at the parks, plenty of sports activities, flea market."
