My 3 sons graduated from Madison. They are very different students and all had fantastic experiences. Madison is a special school where the teachers really care about their students, the administrators work well beyond their scope, and the community is supportive and highly involved. We chose our home because it was in the Madison pyramid and we are so grateful our boys went there.

My child has been here for multiple years now. Their current teacher is amazing, and our previous teacher just wasn’t the right fit for our child. They were still a solid teacher that my child enjoyed. I cannot say enough about how fabulous their current teacher is. She is beautifully managing a classroom with 6 kids above grade level and other kids who have just immigrated to the US with limited English. My child has been placed in the AAP program they need, and their teacher is actively seeking the higher curriculum needed. My child loves their classroom. They are grouped by capability with lessons geared to each group. My child does have special needs. I proactively reached out to the school prior to their first school year and everything was well addressed. Their plan has been proactively managed with things added as needed. New things tried when the need arises. My child also faced disciplinary actions. The school communications were great about what happened and how they would be addressing the challenges as they arose. I was never blamed for the behavior, expected to remediate only at home, or not part of the plan. I have been equally impressed with the emphasis on socio-emotional learning. The community is great. My child has several friends and enjoys all the school activities such as the before school programs by the PTA, the community events, and seeing friends within our neighborhood. The SACC program is fabulous as well. The staff is fantastic and dedicated to their students. Finally the rating is what it is for 2 reasons, the highest level of need in the Vienna community (serves the lowest income group) and MRES being the center for special needs in the area. I see this as a positive as a large portion of the school is of a higher socioeconomic class and being exposed to a larger community is a good thing for me.

I am currently an 8th grader at TMS. I've seen the worse side of the school, and the better side. I'll start with the good things I've noticed. There isn't too much homework, most of the teachers are good, and administrations is alright (could be better, but honestly, not a huge problem).The problem with this school falls in the student population and organizing tendencies. To start off, the student in this school can be really mean. They start and spread rumors, and bully kids. Mostly kids get bullied/harassed by transphobic/homophobic kids, and I've seen a little racism by certain students. However, if your child chooses the right people to interact with they should be okay! I personally have really great friends that have always been by my side. As for the organization, a few changes have been made that I really disagree with. First, the schedule. While I don't mind having first period everyday, the 4 minute passing periods are really hard for a few specific transitions. Again, it's possible if you plan your route a little.The administration deal with serious problems that are noticed and reported well. If your kid doesn't report something, the chances are that they won't get it fixed. But if they do, someone is there to help them. Class variety is pretty good, and most elective choices are fun. Depends on your what your kid is interested in. The gym floors... are... interesting...The YONDR pouches, make it hard to dismiss, and also are a pain...and the lunches are honestly terrible..as with any school, CHECK ON YOUR CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH. please.TO SUMMARIZE: plus points: music program, academic (if you work), administration, not a lot of homework (if you work), mostly good teachers (a few bad but that is a given for most schools), good disciplinary, good elective varietyminus points: a few awful teachers, gym floors..., student bullying (by students, not staff), transition period, YONDR pouches, lunchesoverall? pretty good school. make sure to choose the right people and work hard. you'll be fine in this school.
