I feel compelled to share my experience with this school, since staff and admins have changed since the postive ranking. Unfortunately, the administration seems more concerned with maintaining appearances than addressing the actual needs of the students. Safety, which should be a top priority, is often overlooked, and this neglect places children in harm's way. The school has a pattern of disregarding serious and well-documented concerns about certain students who have exhibited harmful behavior. Despite repeated reports of threats, both verbal and physical, the administration frequently dismisses these issues, claiming they are "not their problem." This attitude not only fails to address the immediate threats but also creates an environment where such behavior is tacitly tolerated. The principal and much of the staff appear indifferent to the well-being of the children in their care. When incidents of harm occur, there is little effort to support the affected students or hold those responsible accountable. This lack of action undermines trust in the school and leaves parents feeling powerless to ensure their child's safety. No child should have to endure an unsafe environment, and no parent should feel ignored when raising legitimate concerns. A school should prioritize its students' safety and education above all else, but sadly, that is not the case here.

While the school is limited to some extent by its small size (making it more challenging to offer as wide a variety of opportunities as larger districts) the opportunity is here for the taking for any student who is so motivated. We made a conscience choice to have our children attend school in Winters rather than Davis (where we had lived previously) precisely so that they could enjoy their childhood and still gain admission to competitive UC schools.
